 | Has anyone here ever had a pickup go bad on an O? I just had one go bad on my 1537.(not the original) At first I thought it was the OpPro Studio itself, but luckily, I had another guitar with the same electronics... I opened the backs of both, and did the old “switch-a-Roo” with each of the wires, finding that the can was good. I eventually narrowed it down to the pickup.
On another pickup note... I sure wish they could have come up with another material for the top of the pickup. I always end up having the strings cutting into the plastic, which can’t be doing much for the sound. ..and THEN there’s the nut. Couldn’t they have offered a bone or tusque nut for the Ovation?

Maybe it’s the aftermath of chemo, but I can’t get these things out of my mind.

 | I have not "Had" a pickup go bad on me... But they Do go bad. I did buy two "broken" pickups that had quit working for others.
I bought them to get the plastic saddles out.

On another subject, as to the soft plastic saddles...
Dan Savage has posted a link to acquiring new saddles...
 Here are the new saddles.
They come in Black or White.
HERE is the thread about replacing the saddle.

 Hope you find this helpful.

 | Well... I installed the new compensated black saddle (not a new pickup. I was mistakenly interchanging the words pickup and saddle) on my 1581-8 Adamas I. The tuning up the neck seems a little better, but it wasn’t noticeable bad to start with. My only complaint is with the 6th (E) string... the sustain I had with the higher (older) saddle seemed to go on forever. With the new one, it almost sounds slightly muted and lacking sustain. I’ll give it a little time to break in with the new set of strings, and see if the sustain improves.

 | The old silicone sealant under the old saddle could be causing the sustain/tone problems. You can trim or pull it out carefully with an Xacto knife or other similarly small tool. |
