The 1111-6 was white and with the years the polyester finish has yellowed so much that I can't find and good pictures of the color. My question is was it a transparent white and did it have a tint of yellow in the clear or was the clear more of a water clear.
I was going the reset the bridge and the clear started to come off and it started to bring back memories of what they looked like back then. since I have to refinish I think I want to get the color right.
Thanks for any input.

In the Ovation History book there is a good picture of the -6 Josh White guitar.

The 1111-6 was white...

Hi obses4sail, hope you don't mind my chiming in here... the "-6" finishes that I've seen have been pretty "brilliant white" with no yellow. Like a lot of white finishes of the era, the brilliant white was covered with a poly that yellowed over the years. For example, you'll find a Pinnacle brochure on the Ovation Tribute site here...

http://www.ovationtribute.com/Catalogues/Ovation%20Pinnacle%20Brochure/Ovation%20Pinnacle%20Brochure.html

The 1986 Collectors' model number was 1986-6 and it too was a brilliant white finish. The advertisement listed here calls the finish "white pearlesant" although it's a bit hard to see the finish in the add...

Hope this helps! Please post pics of your refinished guitar and walk us through your refinishing process! Thanks for sharing!

To my knowledge, there was nothing but -4 in the Josh White.

I was thinking the same thing. Interesting. Detlef, is there a way to scan the book page, or maybe you know of a web photo of that model?

I remember that pics of J.White holding his O, but -being made at an angle- I suspect is -4 finish.......that looks like -6 finish

marenostrum and DetlefMichel

I pulled out the bible and looked and it does appear to be white, but I think that it is the angle of shot that makes it appear that way. I do not believe that any of the shiny bowls were anything other than natural. I am not sure when Ovation introduced colors, but it had to be a little bit into the 70's. Maybe between 72 and 74?

Thank you for your responses, I got to learn a little about Josh White. The Balladeer 1111-6 was the bottom end of the Ovation line and they advertised it as a lime white. The later pearl white numbers ended in -6P. After my research I think I am going to go with a White stain and let the grain show (just a little) and a two part epoxy clear.

Paul, I just think that guitar is overexposed in printing. My bet that it is an overexposed -4. You can tell they used a flash by how lit up he is on the flat plane of his face and comparing his right hand to his left, and by the lack of definition on the pin on his lapel...I doubt it is white.
