There's a pretty beat up 1688 on eBay, supposedly belonged to Cosat Cordalis. So far bidding looks reasonable with 2 days to go:

I saw this guitar, the thing that scares me about it is the top is broken through the soundholes on the bass side epi, plus it needs a new bridge and a bunch of other work but for someone with the skills it could be a great project.

WOW! Thanks for the heads-up d'ovation! The cracked bowl takes it beyond my abilities, but that sure is tempting! Had no idea who Costa Cordalis is so searched the net and found this...a Custom Balladeer?

Arumako,I don't think the bowl is cracked just some big scratches, the big problem is the top, you'd have to know how to remove both epaulets, patch the carbon fiber where it's broken out of the soundhole pattern and install new epi's,plus a new bridge that would probably have to be custom made if you wanted to try to keep it original, and theres something funky with the headstock if you look closely at the pics you can see the scrolled wood section(broccoli)pulling away from the headstock.

Then again you could customize it with whatever bridge you wanted, create a custom soundhole pattern and have a cool guitar with a big sound for a fraction of what a 1688 sells for.

Hmmm, thanks for deepening the temptation 2wheeldrummer (LOL)! Not sure, it looks cracked to me, but... Actually, with regard to the epi's, they come off pretty easily with the right amount of heat without damaging the finish too. The CFRP and birch sandwiched tops on Adamas are pretty sturdy, but I don't think they will need to be removed. You could actually rebuild the whole area using moulding resin or G10 sheets cut and shimmed into place. Assuming parts are not available from the mothership, I could cut up some existing epi's from other projects that I've just held onto and rebuild the area...or cut new epi's out of some koa, sakura or maple stock that's just sittin' around - naw not maple...too white. The broccoli is probably a fairly simple "heat, remove, clean and glue process" - WAIT-A-MINUTE! What am I talking about!

Not buying this guitar...can't afford this right now... but I could fix it and sell it for at least $2,500 bucks! Argh, No, no, no, still need to finish my iDea and 1868 projects! Besides, if you fix it, you know you're going to keep it! Bad Ken, baaaaad Ken!

Oh, hey...sorry, didn't mean to publicize my inner conflict here...now, I'm talking to myself on the OFC! Sheesh!

The description says scratches on the back but it's Feebay and people don't always disclose info but if you look at the big one on the back it looks like a big gouge, how somebody did that you can only guess,he didn't describe or have pics of the damage to the soundholes until I wrote and asked him about it so it's hard to say you can always ask for better pictures.

I figured you'd want to replace the epi's during repair so all the colors matched and you didn't have old wood against new wood pieces plus i was thinking after you repaired the sections missing between the soundholes you could use the new epi to hide the repair,if you look at the treble side epi its also missing part of the leaves so put on two new epi's that match to make it cosmetically appealing, cutting some new epi's would be cool then you could choose the color,If you used ebony you could have black epi's and do a custom ebony bridge like on the Custom Legend 12 strings that would be sweet.

Now I don't want you to get into another argument with yourself over my speculation,I've been eyeballing this since last week when it showed up wondering who I could get to fix it since the mothership is closing and much it would cost.
Calling Dr. Savage any interest in learning how to mend carbon fiber tops LOL

Devil's advocate says buy it fix it and keep it,Kevin

Oops. I was looking at the wrong ad. Yeah, that's a pretty sad looking guitar.
