Hi all. I am new forum member. I was checking it out as I just became an Ovation owner again after not having one for at least the last 15 years. I am the proud owner of a Legend LX 12 string. I traded a vinage tube amp for it and feel both of us came away with a good deal. It joins my diverse stable of guitars that include 1993 Taylor 612C, a 1988 Maxxas (division of Ibanez)electric; my 2005 Gibson Advanced Jumbo and my 1996 Amelio Burguet Classical.

My question is, I have looked at the Ovation web site but can't date my guitar based on it's 6 digit serial number. I assume it is a 2006 but it could be a 2007 I suppose. Can anyone help me out. The number is 593552.

Thanks,

Welcome Taylor Player [and we won't hold that against you, too much]

According to Ovation Tribute, 2004 was 579655 on up, so the Legend is from since then. But some of the members who deal may be more exact.

Post some pics, we love Guitar Porn.

That is what I got too from the Ovation site. Nothing after 2004. I thought that was a little wierd since the site indicate last update in 2007? I am pretty sure that my Legend is from 2006 cause the guy I traded my amp to said he bought it from GC during 2006 and since I have the upgraded pickup that Melissa E. helped design I think it is likely 2006.

Hopefully this works for the pix.

The first is my new 12 string and the second is my music room. :D

I think I am a happy camper right now. I used to have 2 Ovations, a six and a twelve that pretty much matched back in the 1980's. It is nice having this and it seems to sound great through my Crate Acoustic amp. I did take one of the shims out from under the saddle and may take the second one out as well next string change. After playing my Taylor for so long I am used to a very low action. Even my Gibson has lower action right now. Does anyone have experiance in taking out both shims and if there have been fret buzz problems. I think I can live very nicely with the current action but it would be nice if it were a bit lower.

Nice looking Legend. Honey-boist? (My 1115 is coming back that way)
No personal experience on the shim thing. But it should be alright to take them all out if you like. My 1115 was all the way down when I got it. And so is my Celebrity 255. But you should have no problem.
The only thing that I would worry about is having the saddle so low that the strings touch the bridge.
My CC255 is just about there! I got it that way. When I change the strings (one of these days) I plan on putting a shim in and adjusting the truss-rod. The previous owner apparently didn't know how to do that, so he just took all the shims out.

 I wanna play with the Zither!! (auto-harps are for wimps!)

Thanks for the advice on the shim. I think I will try taking out the last one and see what happens. I can always put it back in if the action is too low. I play mostly fingerstyle guitar so low action is a real plus for me. But I do like to strum and that is the main reason I got the 12 string for those situations.

Yes that is a banjo Uke. My uncle used to play in a banjo band back in the 1920's and I inherited that from him. I taught myself how to play it back in high school (almost 25 years ago). The guitar zither in the background was my grandmas. I think it dates from the late 1800's or maybe early 1900's. I don't dare play it as there are some surface cracks in it. If I tried to tighten up the strings, it would likely turn to dust.

Also, yes the Gibson is a canon. I think that is why they call it bone crusher. I actually named my Taylor "Beauty" and the Gibson is "Beast". I don't have a name for the Ovation yet. Those come to me after I have played them for awhile! :D

Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to learning more about my newest addition from you guys.

Well I took out both shims and the action is beautiful! No fret buzz even with heavy strumming. Fingerstyle is much eaiser now.

I think I am really going to enjoy my new Legend!
