| I collect Ovation/Eric Clapton stuff from his and Ovation's first 10 years. I have a Billboard mag clipping that says in 1969 Eric Clapton plays Ovation guitars. Has anyone ever seen a picture of him playing a Ovation guitar? Thanks |

Location: Katmandu | Eric's known for being mainly a Martin and Fender guy (he also played a couple of Les Paul). I've never seen a picture of him with an Ovation even back from the day when almost anybody was on the Ovation train (e.g., Mark Knopfler did play Ovation back then). That is not to say that he didn't receive guitars from Ovation for promotion purposes, though.

That is not to say that he didn't receive guitars from Ovation for promotion purposes, though.
I always thought that Ovation did NOT give away promotional guitars.
That (unlike Gibson/Fender) if you saw an artist with an Ovation, that artist bought that guitar.
But there was a brochure... I think that there was a thread discussing this image and it was decided that this is just a drawing, nothing more.
 
Although Eric may have accepted money for use of his name and image.
I could not find an image of Eric Clapton playing an Ovation. I did find allegations that Eric bought an Ovation for the "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" tour in 1984.

But I Think this might Roger Waters was playing that guitar on stage from that concert.
Maybe Eric. I don't know.

| Thanks so much. I had looked at his Christie's auctions but even though there was a Preacher model and a Ovation acoustic donated for the Crossroads sale they may have come from other people. |

Location: Texas | Eric auctioned off 2-3 Ovations or Adamas's during his guitar sell off, a couple of years ago. But I never saw any evidence he ever played one. Sweet find OMA. That supports the notion of desperate is as desperate does.

So, Eric bought Ovations for other people to play.
Still shows that he thought the Ovations were good for something.

| Thanks Jay, I found a 1970 "O" catalog that has a drawn picture of Eric playing a Deluxe Balladeer just like the promo that I found in 1969/1970 Billboard mag but no pictures. |

| I think you are right DVD. The Ovation acoustic that was in the Eric Clapton Crossroads sale was donated by Roger Waters. I would guess from the 1984 Pro's and Con's of Hitchhiking tour. |

| Right on Arthur. We know John Lennon played a Ovation because there are pictures of him in the studio with a "O". Also Ovation made a very limited "John Lennon" Legend guitar a 1651-7 I think. |

| Right about the Gibson 335. Auctioned for The Crossroads center "Cherry Red" the Gibson Eric played during the Good bye Cream tour sold for $847,500.00. I know it is for a ggod cause but when a guitar sell for more then you made your whole life it kind of takes you back. LOL |

Probably not official Ovation nomenclature. |

| Thanks Professor B, a early red 335 poster would be the same one. "Cherry Red" was bought by The Guitar center and the limited Gibson "Cream" 335 was reproduced. He had a Gibson Les Paul in the late 60's but it was stolen. |
