Joined: February 2006 Posts: 43 | I just received my new 2017 US Custom Shop Glen Campbell Ovation guitar from Guitar Center today. I ordered it at the end of January after seeing the Ovation booth and this guitar was showing at their booth. Ovation Sales Rep Michael Roberts told me that I could order this guitar through my local Guitar Center and my sales guy Tony contacted Michael at Ovation and I was hooked up with this guitar in less than 2 months after the Namm Show. The quality and craftsmanship on this guitar is superb. I am so happy to see that Ovation is kicking out quality guitars again, just like they used to when Glen Campbell, Cat Stevens., Jim Croce, Nancy Wilson, etc. were using these guitars on stage and in the studio. I will definitely be using this guitar in the studio and on live performances. Bravo Ovation!

It is a single control knob with tone and volume, just like Glen's. I believe it is a mid size bowl that is black. The back of the neck has the serial number, and states custom shop. No more serial numbers on stickers inside the bowl, which would eventually fall off and get lost. Glen's signature is on the truss rod cover and at the end of the fret board. I don't know how to post photo's, but you can go on Ovation's face book page and it shows Glen's son Cal at the Namm Show Ovation booth holding this guitar. I believe the wood is spruce and there is a sunburst model available for those who are interested. The rosette around the sound hole is different than the original, smaller in width and imbedded in the top and lacquered over, if I am describing this correctly. How well does it do recording-wise without an EQ? You got any close-up shots of the guitar you can share? Edited by leonardmccoy 2017-07-29 7:27 AM

The purpose (to Glen) was to cut through the mix better. I'd love to hear how a recent 1627 stacks up against an A-braced Legend, though (without wanting to open up a pandora's box debate about VT-11 versus A-bracing). If you want them, shoot me an address pmoody dot pi at gmail dot com and I'll send you what I have. Edited by moody, p.i. 2017-07-31 9:20 AM
