I hope to attach pics of my Adamas 1.
This has a 'carved' head but a plain bridge - can anyone please explain?
It was suggested that the bridge may have been repaired/replaced but I see from the Forums that this seems to normally involve a new label/serial but that is not the case here - the original label is still in place and nearly illegible due to age - although I think I can decipher the model no. as 1687-8 - which would seem correct.
It's very difficult to photograph the label due to the small soundholes - as I'm sure other owners have found! Any tips?

Location: SoCal		It's an Adamas II bridge.Probably, it was put on years ago, I wouldn't know why. As to your comment that when the bridge is changed, so is the label, that is wrong. Never heard that before. The guitar is still the same guitar so the label would still be accurate. I've had guitars that the mothership has put on a whole new body, and they have always transferred the label from the old guitar body to the new one.

Anybody else have some thoughts on this?By the way, those are really wondereful guitars you have. What's the story on the wild bridge you have on the Balladeer (Artist?) on the left?

Location: UK		Thanks for that. I'd read the 'new label' comment on the Forums within.

I don't know the story behind the 'wild' bridge on the Balladeer (1111-4). It was like that when I bought it 35 or so years ago. There is some slight irregularity in the table directly below it so I'd guess a replacement. It's been completely stable during all that time and plays beautifully.

The Serial is K529. On the Serials sites, there's reference to I, J & L Series but no K that I can see. Any ideas?

Location: SoCal		Off the top of my head, I'd say that Kxxx was about 1970, but I can't remember for certain. Somebody will come along who will know.

The bridge on the Balladeer is definitely a replacement, and not by the factory.

Here is  the tag off a 71 (I assume) Legend that I briefly owned. Not only did it have a paper tag, it had an alpha numeric serial beginning with M...

I believe that through all the discussions, there was some agreement (the best you can do here) that there was a dart board approach to serialization with the 60's paper serialization. Ovation was more concerned about numbers than numbering...but they werent the only one. Try to get Gibson to nail down a 60's serial.

Location: SoCal		This thread did cause me to pull out my THead and look at the serial number. 341, built in 1967. 50 years old.

What Jay said. When a company is just getting started, they don't keep the best of records as they are too busy trying to keep going. The first guitars probably went out being counted sequentially, and then as new models came along, changes were made. 50 years later, it's more and more difficult to know what's what.

Location: Muenster/Germany		The original Adamas I bridge might be more fancy, but the one you have on this guitar is better, I do not trust the string holder on the carved bridge.
