Haven't seen this thread in a while and it's always good to hear if someone has uncovered a new talent (or re-discovered an old one) so, what's on your current rotation (current, retro, punk, folk...whateveh...it's all good).

I'm all over the board with:
Steely Dan
Matt Nathanson
Edwin McCain
Larry Carlton / Steve Lukather
Back Door Slam
And a little early Jackson Browne

Generally, I don't listen to recorded music. I'd rather play an instrument and make music.

...oh, and since I have a 3 year old daughter, songs from the movie "Frozen" over and over again. Lots, and lots of Frozen (for like 2 years running now).

Michael Schenker and Dream Theater plus whatever my 13 year old son chooses when we're going to and from his baseball practices, usually AC/DC, Scorpions, G 'N' R, Def Leppard, and the like.

I've been listening to Jason Isbell. Flavors of Jackson Browne, JT, Paul Simon in a younger package.
"Something More Than Free" is a really good album.

Me I discovered 8 shows of the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on Shout Music from Amazon so I am in hog heaven listening to and learning some of those songs from the concert section. Also #4 features the finest rendition of Arkansas Traveler (with Larry McNeely) to be found in this galaxy and possibly in the entire cosmos!!

Hi, Everyone,
I listen to everything from Bach to Rock. I'm like Dan, I'd rather play than listen. I'm NOT a fan of heavy metal, death metal. or any other kind of, " metal", music. The metal in my body makes music on its own, please and thank you very much, when I least expect it, going through airport security, and such. Yikes! I grew up listening to Les Paul, and Mary Ford, on old 78 RPMs, from my grandmother. I got my guitar chops from listening to GC, The Beatles, etc, etc. I am a classically trained operatic tenor, who somehow ended up sounding like Neil Young? I am Canadian, eh? Nowadays, I listen to Contemporary Christian Worship/Praise Rock, or whatever they now choose to call it?! I still love old jazz standards, ballads, guitar, piano, and sax instrumentals, and yes, old country, and some classical music. I don't listen to rap, techno, or new/dubstep /dance music. " I don't dance, but I do play in the band."

Strangely enough, the music I tend to listen to is not what I like to/am able to play. I pretty much I only listen to music while I walk to work, and then I rotate through several albums or a collection of one artist several times until something I'm in the mood for something else. That can take a while with Beatles, Rush, or FZ. Last few days I have been going through David Bowie Platinum Collection.

Strangely enough, the music I tend to listen to is not what I like to/am able to play.

Thankfully I am not limited to listening to only what I can play.
That might get old really really quickly. Repetitive too.

I was just listening to Bonnie Raitt and John Prine.
Now Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
(on Windows Media Player)

I often listen to Classical Music as background music.
NPR with no commercials.
Maybe I am getting old, but most "rock" radio stations suck nowadays.

For some reason, lots of Gordon Lightfoot.

And on the way home the other night, an obscure album (burned on CD) called "Ernie Sings, Glen Picks" - Tennessee Ernie Ford and Glen Campbell. Some great tunes and Glen plays both amazing rhythms and leads (with some subtle bass along for the ride - and that's it!).

I've been on a roll lately to digitize a collection of New Riders of the Purple Sage. Also collecting Doobie Brothers' live cuts (snagged a real nice South City Midnight Lady performance the other day). Must be a classic-era Bay Area kick I'm on or something. Also been collecting some Lissie and some Milo Greene for newer stuff.

I was on "Random All Tracks" of a 32 gig thumb drive in the Honda, except when the diabolical Honda software reverts back to Abba, Dancing Queen. (Long story.)
My commuting CD is a live album by Carole King and James Taylor.

I know this isn't a direct answer to your post, but I still tend to play songs that most everyone has heard before, thus I listen to mostly familiar tunes. Recently learned New York State Of Mind (Joel), Against All Odds (Phil Collins), I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt). If I play songs like this at a get together with friends, they all go "oh yeah". If I play something off the radar, I immediately start losing the audience.

Now I like to watch Youtube and listen to different people play familiar songs in different ways. Just learned a cool way to change up Pretzel Logic, a song I've been playing for 20 years. Now I play it better IMHO. Sometimes I'll search for "unplugged" versions of rock songs to get new ideas.
