I looked on the Ovation Web site, and the few high end models I checked didn't specify one as well. Does anyone know if this is the direction the company is going?

I have 3 Adamii with Optima preamps and XLR's. I have tried them once on my Roland CubeStreet, but just to see if they worked. And I am sure that an XLR would be useful if you play through a "house" PA system. I imagine that if you ordered a guitar from Ovation you could request one.

So I don't see why anyone would want the extra plug in their guitar? Maybe I'm missing something in my ignorance?. Edited by bvince 2017-04-13 2:03 AM

Wouldn't an XLR cord between the amp and a direct box and a standard 1/4" instrument cable between the direct box and guitar provide all these advantages, leaving your guitar intact? In any case, you don't need or want phantom power to your guitar.

I have two Adamii and an Ovation that have one that I mostly use with a Fishman, and I have found the sound to be louder and cleaner than the 1/4" jack. Especially with an OP Pro Studio. That preamp is awesome!

(My understanding is that not all Ovation preamps will run on phantom power.)

It's still a valid reason, but I'm not sure there are is as much need. Back when you couldn't find a pro NOT playing an Ovation it made sense to put an option in that a majority of people would use. Now those are few and far between.
