I fingerpick w/light gauge .012-.053, and am considering .013-.056 (med.) to compensate. I cant imagine being the only one doing this, so I would appreciate your opinions on string gauge and end result if you have some experience with this situation. What string gauge is used on the Longneck O's?

You can always capo on the first fret to get back to E-E if you want it, and also, yes, to more accommodate a lower singing voice. Old Man Arthur once posted a string gauge vs. tension chart that I found interesting and helpful. I can't remember what thread it was on, but I'm sure you can find one online, or maybe he will see this and post it again. I've never owned a longneck, so I don't know on that part.

They come with D'Addario EJ18... or at least used to. I use them and tune down to a B even on my Longneck

It left me lacking in some aspects of music theory. guitar/banjo, (and it's a long neck, which again suits my voice) is self taught. I now have the tension graphs for 12s, 13s and 14s, but I need to make sure I understand "Tuning down to B". If that refers to the E-strings in standard pitch tuned down to B, that seems like a long way down, and would explain using the EJ-18s. I seem to remember a long neck has a 26"scale? Let me know if I misunderstand it. and thank you both for helping me out here. I realize I will have to experiment a bit to find what works, but good basic knowledge is a good starting point. I also have one tuned to Eb, with Adamas 1717 strung on it, that is 010.... when I got it back in the day, it was tuned to E! The seller did not now about the Longneck... Fortunately, there was no damage done. It plays sweet with the 1717. Before that, I played various Takamine tuned D to D with 013 strings, but that did not really work for me, so the Takas left the house when the Longnecks moved in...
