I just bought a Celebrity Elite (spalted maple top, beauty to behold!) In the past I had an Ovation electric bass, the Magnum with the slider eq. Coming back to music after a long absence.

I do find the action is higher on the Celebrity than what I like; 3/32 at the 12th on the high E (actually more like 7/64") All the shims are out. I know this isn't terrible by acoustic guitar standards but I do like it a bit lower. Maybe I should just get an electric... Anyway if there is a practical way to get a little closer to the fretboard without doing anything drastic I'm all ears!

Been a fan of Ovation for quite a long time. Glad to be getting musical again!

Is it NEW? (you could return it)
Otherwise many Celebrity's just come that way.

I bought a used Celebrity CC29S with a Thin saddle...
The previous owner had cut slots in the saddle to lower the strings.

I would only do this if you had a replacement saddle for it.
(contact Ovation if you want one)
The previous owner of the CC29S had bought it for a one-shot studio deal.
They wanted the sound of a Cedar Topped Ovation on an album....
So they just carved-up the saddle, then sold it to me on eBay for cheap.
But slotting the saddle did lower the strings.

I have also seen where people have sanded the whole top of the saddle top to lower it.

That may or may not be helpful.

I was considering that. Good advice about having a replacement handy. I may try the slots thing. Thanks! (It is new, but I don't want to return it since it's just a matter of setup and personal preference)
