The "sunburst" as we called it, was my mom's 2nd guitar from her dad. It was a favorite of mine as a kid. The custom was a gift from my grandpa to my grandma. It looks seafoam green, but I thought it used to be a light blue? Perhaps I'm wrong. I can very distinctly remember my grandpa playing this guitar. My grandma gave it to me several years ago and I will treasure it forever.
My grandpa worked at Kaman in Moosup, so Ovation guitars were a big part of the family. I still have copies of his business cards. My mom remembers some fun stories... one time my grandpa brought home one of Glen Campbell's new guitars and everyone in the family got to test it out before he brought it back. Another time he came home talking about some guy from Air Supply that picked up his guitar. My mom was in awe and brought one of her albums downstairs to show him a picture and asked which one. My grandpa was so confused. He had no idea the guy was a musician.. he just thought he worked for a company that supplied air. LOL.

I Loved that your Grandpa thought Air Supply supplied air, I would have been like your Mom and went crazy!!! I still love their music! MWoody - perfect name for the model, I was wondering what you would call that! LOL!!! But that works perfectly! And it will be interesting to see if Beal remembers it, and can tell us the story about it!

Jeremy Paul, who was a founding member of Air Supply as their bass player, lives in Jindabyne in New South Wales, Australia, which is where I'm living for the winter. I've heard that he's currently touring with them. He also plays in a local band of old rockers called The Hip Replacements. They're very good. Edited by BanjoJ 2016-07-31 4:45 PM

Like Nancy says, there's gotta be some interesting history behind the white Applause no doubt...why with the Adamas bridge and all...maybe its my laptop screen, but is the back of the white Applause blue?

That was shortly after Miles moved out to the Northwest and brought it and his truckloads of other Ovation toys with him. A lot of water has passed under the bridge in the last 10 years.

Yes, the back of the custom Applause is blue. The front used to be a light blue, but has faded a sort of green color now... both sides complete with sparkles.... yes, as a young girl, that made this guitar very memorable! My mom never got to see the Air Supply guitar, so have no clue what it looked like. Just know that story is a classic in our family : ) I will try to get pictures of my mom's first guitar. It is a 12 string. Those are the only 3 we have in our home. But between my mom's siblings, there are many other great ovations around.

Her dad gave it to her when she was in 4th grade, just beginning in lessons at school. He apparently found 2 broken guitars at work and salvaged the best parts to put together this one for her. It's not perfect, but that makes it all the more special.
