He's in college and currently playing my old guitar, a cheapo Alverez acoustic electric. The bridge pickup is having some problems. He wanted a new pickup for Christmas, but I thought I'd surprise him with a new Ovation. I contemplated for a few days on which model to get. I was looking at the Balladeer first, but then started looking at the Legend. I wanted the contour back and the LX version. After shopping the web for a few days, I finally found a great deal on the Legend 2077LX-5 and ordered it yesterday. I got the black color. I think he will like it and will be happy with my choice.

I have a co-worker that fly fishes and he fished the LeTort a few times. The guitar is being shipped directly from the Ovation factory in CT. I hope the initial setup is OK from the factory. If not, I have some experience in setting up the action. I've adjusted nuts, bridge saddles, and filed frets before. But, I trust the factory and anticipate the setup will be spot on.

The action will be a little high, but not bad Simply take off the strings lift up up the bridge and remove 1 or 2 shims. I removed 2 from my Custom Legend. I also picked at the factory. The nut and frets will be no problem. 3 people test play the guitar and sign on the tag

It sounds good acoustically. The strings seem to be xtra light gauge to me. Action is good, no fret buzz, neck is straight with a 'very' slight almost un-noticeable bow, nut is set up good. I'll have to restring with light gauge to see how it plays. Also, the inside of the case seems to be made for a round back, not contour back. When you put the guitar in the case and seat it to the bottom, on side sticks up higher than the other. I guess you have to make sure the top of the guitar is level on both sides of the case before closing the lid, so you don't damage the guitar. Strange they don't make a case molded for the contour back.

Now that I think about it, I do just set it in the case so the guitar is sitting square and shut the lid. If it isn't sitting square, I think the top will help it do that as you close it. The main reason I think that is because I know the people at the plant and if anything about the roundback case was or could cause damage to the contour backs that they are making so many of now, they'd fix that in a New York minute. They're pretty fanatical about that stuff ;)
