Does anyone know where I could find detailed specs on the Ovation Eclipse?

I just picked one up and it has a style of pick-ups a bit different than the earlier models ( think it's ~1972)

The baronaudio site shows these specs (but one of the forum mods said he thinks the specs are wrong for the p/u's on my 1972):

Mine has blade pick-ups that are split and off-set (two blades per pickup).

The same as shown in the 1972 ovation catalog page:

Anyone have make/model/info on these pickups??

They sound great. Just got the guitar yesterday and tuned her up and plugged her in... WOW!

Thx.

The "forum mod" who said he thinks the Baron Audio site is wrong is Miles Baron, the author of the site. You might have missed his subtle admission that he made a mistake. It sounds to me like he was telling you that you have the correct original pickups. Getting the specs for those guitars is really difficult. You might see if you can find anything on the Ovation Tribute site.

Hi there bart,

The Eclipse came out in various forms. My understanding is they were made with whatever parts were available. I had heard from somewhere that many of the bodies were painted black to cover finish imperfections too.

As for the pickups, the ones shown in your image were the ones the Tornado originally. The single rail ones were on some of the later models.

I have a '67 with the older pickups, but recently installed brand new (old stock) pickups and wiring harness. The new ones are the single poles. For what it's worth, I like the newer ones a bit better.

If you talk to Al Pepiak at Lost Art Vintage, I bet he can find a way to procure you the same new old stock.

Damon-

Yeah, I have seen pictures of tornados with what look like the same pickups as mine...

Here' a photo of mine:

My SN is: H 078 (which makes it a 1970-73 I believe - a later model)

Tough to know what they did when with these guitars... I've also read that the hardware was all Schaller on Eclipses, but this one has Kluson Deluxe tuners and they look stock (exact drill holes at least.)

Really happy with it. only a couple minor dings and very minor fretwear... sounds great through my ampeg reverberocket amp!

Welcome to the wonder that is the world of Ovation electrics.

I am working on a Thunderhead right now that has what I believe are Ovation branded tuners with split shafts. I have NEVER seen split-shaft tuners on any of the early Ovations. However, the buttons look like Schaller, but they also have center mounting screws. By the way, if anyone has a set of these, let me know, I need them in Gold but don't have to be split shaft.

But back on topic.. Ovation used mostly Schaller as time went on, but Kluson tuners earlier and I have seen Grovers and more recently Ping.

Hey Mr. O-

What do the tuners look like?

The Kluson Deluxes on mine are split shaft (and also chrome)... Maybe they are Kluson's??

Here's what mine look like:

Those sure look like Klusons. The picture isn't clear enough, but I bet if you used a magnifying glass you could read "Kluson" on the back.

Yeah they are.

They say "Kluson Deluxe" vertically on the back etched.
