I was talking to locals in Baton Rouge LA and the subject turned to cooking Nutria... When I expressed disdain for eating huge water rats I was told, "We're Cajun... If we can Kill It, we'll Eat It."

Of the world's ten most poisonous snakes, all are Australian. Five of its creatures - the funnel web spider, box jellyfish, blue-ringed octopus, paralysis tick, and stonefish - are the most lethal of their type in the world. This is a country where even the fluffiest of caterpillars can lay you out with a toxic nip, where seashells will not just sting you but actually sometimes go for you. ... If you are not stung or pronged to death in some unexpected manner, you may be fatally chomped by sharks or crocodiles, or carried helplessly out to sea by irresistible currents, or left to stagger to an unhappy death in the baking outback. It's a tough place.” Bill Bryson, In A Sunburned Country Hey Fill. I used to ski with a Canadian guy who worked in your forests in the summer. He was comfortable there with the bears and other huge wildlife that can tear you apart, but when he visited Australia with his Aussie wife, he was terrified in the bush (which is what we call forests) because there are so many sneaky little creatures that can kill you before you know anything's happened. I guess I'm more comfortable with funnel web spiders than grizzly bears. I loved Bill Bryson's book - a great read.

According to The Brisbane Times, 'A man has died and two others are in a stable condition after being bitten by venomous snakes across Queensland yesterday.' ... '954 people were admitted to hospital in Queensland in 2014 after being in contact with or bitten by a snake.' If the snakes don't get you the sharks or Queensland beer will - or both. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/three-snakebites-in-quee...

I've offered to collect him from the airport and put him up for a few nights if he comes up early. I'll be there. Have you spoken to Andrew? I think maybe we should arrange for Beal to see Wizz's workshop. You + Beal + me + Richard + Banjo + Dave + Andrew = New Aussie record.
