Location: Katmandu | Someone is offering a Custom Ovation Legend -- from, what he says, the 80s (no S/N is given) -- for a negotiable asking price of USD 1,086.00 (converted from EUR). What do you guys think?

Location: moline,illinois | that is an Ovation Custom Legend probably a model 1619.they have the AAA spruce tops if everything works,good action etc. its probably worth a 1000$ plus those are hard to find especially in the left hand model.ask him for a pic of the label and serial number,custom legends are my favorite center sound hole guitar. |

Location: Katmandu | The seller just informed me that, as you reckoned, "it's a 1619 Stereo with AAA solid top from 1983." Unfortunately, he didn't post another pic of the serial number (just a short message he dropped off), which isn't too surprising since the platform he's selling the guitar on is collection-only. According to him, the original proof of purchase still exists as well.
For a price of over one grand I still find her to be a little too pricey. And for me to try her out in person I'd have to drive or fly across the whole country, all the way from the very north to the very south now that the holidays are over.

Location: Canada | I have sold some stuff on this site and so far had good experiences. Unfortunately I don't think you get the buyer protection that regular ebay has so personal pick up would definitely be preferable. I have looked at custom legends and I think the price for Europe is very reasonable especially if it was mint. If you are left handed this may be a unique opportunity too. Also don't forget the VB which means the seller expects negotiation. So maybe offer 650 Euros. Maybe someone who lives closer reads the thread and can go check it out for you. Looking at his other items the seller looks like a genuine lefty player.

Location: Texas | Dr. McCoy... That is a sweet looking 1619. If it the condition is as it appears, you will look long and hard to find another in excellent condition. Take into account it is left handed, that makes it even more rare and your journey to find another at a cheaper price may be filled with regret.
The CL is the cream of the crop. It brings together all that was good with Ovation acoustics at that time...and at that time, Ovation was at the top of their game. One would expect to get 800-1000 for an EX COND CL... being that it was assembled backwards, would make it worthless to some and priceless to others.
One thing for sure...when you bring a CL out of the case, it will attract quite a bit of appreciative attention. They are a beautiful instrument.

Location: Katmandu | Well, to chime in, apart from the obvious (placement of neck sidedots and guitar strap knob), the bridge, nut, hopefully the bracing (though often not), the corpus slot for the amp, and often the shape of the amp itself (as is the case with all new-age Ovations) could or indeed should all be different for a left-hand Ovation if it's done the right way.
To update you on the offer for the lefthand Ovation 1619 above, I took up your advice and contacted the seller with an admittedly rather low offer (EUR 650), as I don't feel I have the need for an extravagant Custom Legend at full price; an ordinary vintage Legend would totally suffice. As expected, he declined right away. I had to take into account several other expenses when making the offer, such as the ride down south for inspecting and picking up the guitar in person (which in itself would have been a risky endeavor with uncertain outcome) and treating it to a professional setup.
I'm convinced my time to pick up a lefty that I want is yet to come.

To elaborate on this: it's not that there's a lack of Ovation guitars in my home, it's only that I'm lacking a vintage Ovation. I also feel that more than thrice the price of a vintage Legend (for US standards) for such a Custom Legend as was being offered there is simply too much to ask for in my books. |
