Location: Wayne, NJ | I was at my (one of my, I live in Northern New Jersey) local Guitar center and they have , in the used section, what to me looks and plays like a BRAND NEW Elite. Truthfully, it's an ugly a** guitar; black soundboard, maple neck, black tuning peg heads. It looks like a tuxedo. It also what looks like a brand new OP-Pro pre-amp. Plays and sounds awesome! It's not in the plan for me now -- here's the link to the stores used section

Location: Jet City | They sound nice, but I think they're butt ugly too. I'm not a fan of a natural maple neck on an acoustic... even on the ALE. It really turned me off to that model. Looks completely out of place.
It's just a looks thing for me, I'm sure it doesn't affect the playability.
I must say though, and I do hope DW is watching, please go back to the older neck profiles. The LX series, and maybe even a few years before that, the necks just aren't the same feeling. They're still better than most anything out there (Larrivee necks are pretty sweet), but the thin 70's neck, the early 90's soft v, most all of the other older profiles seem a bit more comfortable to me than the latest.
This really hit hope comparing the reissue K1111 to the #1911

It sounds terrific, and personally I like the glossy black top, spaulted maple doodads, ebony fretboard and bridge, and even the maple neck and black tuners. Beauty in the eye of the beholder, eh? Back to the sound... As I understand it is braced like an LX though the neck doesn't have the LX construction. The neck is the same width though slightly thicker than my Legend. Doesn't play quite as fast, but the sound more than makes up for that. "Overachiever"? Most definitely. For a less expensive USA-made model churned out for Guitar Center, it more than does the job. A steal at that price. Look around, there are other threads talking about this slightly esoteric model. |

I had one that I let go. Made a sweet match with the 07C.
It played and sounded excellent with the feel of the neck second only to the old 1617 legend I got from Damon (That I since gave to my son-in-law)

I kinda think that the GC178LX has it's own charm.
I just try to avoid gloss black tops.
They show every scratch and fingerprint and sweat-drop, Y'know?

Yeah.. they show everything.
But I gave myself a gift. The gift of not worrying about this one. Not that I don't care, I'm just not going to worry about normal wear.
Now the UTE, AD-II, and the 45 year old balladeer... those have a little more thought put on 'em.

Location: Tennessee | I recall StandingOvation describing the spalted maple epaulet on the GC178 and the 07BCS as "cadaver skin epaulet". Pretty flipping funny and he was right ... until the guitar was several years old and finally started to get a tan. My 07BCS is now becoming quite elegant. |

Nothing to it jbb, this place has a history one needs to take some time (and maybe a few drinks) to understand. All in good humor. I've heard that epaulet called everything from puke to a work of art. Makes it special. |
