Ok, so we have some creative minds and some creative players. How about a list of "innovative" ideas.
We talked a little about the preamp in another thread, but lets include that and expand. Maybe your idea has been already tried, maybe it hasn't.

I'll start.

- Composite bracing. There must be some material that at a certain size as the same flexibility yet longer lasting than wood.

- While the Carbon Fiber sandwich works great on the Adamas, what about another material for the core instead of wood. Again something like UHMW comes to mind. The stuff works like wood, but it's pretty indestructible.

- A case design that is more "stackable" as an option, with some really nice storage compartments. Acoustic players have stuff to carry. A stand, a tablet, etc.. Certainly not as "standard equipment" but a high-end case with some storage for working musicians I think would be awesome.

- Rechargable pre-amp. Battery tech is amazing today. There are entire phones that are smaller than the current pre-amp that last for days. I have actually thought about this one for awhile. If it had a USB charge ability, than not only could it be charged just about anywhere, but those external battery/booster packs would save the day without any downtime. Gig starts running long, preamp starts to fail, just plug in the pack and drop the chapstick sized battery in your pocket and keep playing. A tech could do it on the fly and you wouldn't miss a note. As a bonus, have it charge if it's plugged into Phantom power as well.

- Of course now that we have a USB adapter, we can transfer digital data back and forth to the pre-amp.

Ok, that's all I have for the moment.

I think they should market and sell some of the models as assemble-your-own guitar kits.

I'm serious ... think about it.
1) install the tuners using pre-drilled holes
2) bolt the neck onto the guitar
3) thread the saddle wires through the pre-drilled hole in the bridge
4) screw in the strap buttons
5) screw in the jack through the pre-drilled hole in the bowl
5) install the pre-amp can and connect the pickup and jack cable connectors
6) put a battery in the preamp and in install the preamp in the can
7) string the guitar and tune it up using the preamps tuner

I'm not kidding about this.

I don't know much about how to build an acoustic guitar, how to brace, with what materials, nor could I begin to fathom what materials would sound good for the top.

I only care about 2 things. Playability and sound. And really sound is a two parter, I want it to sound good unplugged and plugged.

So hook up those vibrometers or wtf ever they're called and get some aerospace engineers back on it.

As for preamps, I want it to sound good and REAL. If I wanted modeled sounds, I'll buy a pedal for that or use the Roland. Give me a GREAT pickup/preamp system. Not only is Ovation no longer an innovator in this category, they're behind the times. The pickup is fine. I don't see a need to change it, just add to it with another that can blend. Of course this would be something on the higher end models.

I'd love to see a built-in wireless transmitter, plug in a box to your amp input and then hit a button on your guitar, boom your playing through your amp.

An intelligent anti feedback notch/phase filter which automatically scans for problematic frequencies. Preferably operated by one button as known from e.g. the OPtima. Secondary parameters adaptively controlled so the filter never cuts off more than just enough to avoid feed back.
