I just bought a wonderful 1990´s custom legend sb 12string. This is definetely one of my most desired Ovations. The guitar was in need of e decent neck reset and at the end of the fretboard the white binding was missing. I had to remove the neck anyway, so it should not be a big thing.

When I was about to build this binding new I decided to leave the fretboard black and to make some carvings again. I love this because it it only to be seen at second sight and in my  eyes looks better than a piece of celluloid.

Someone (maybe old man arthur...) must tell me one day what I do wrong with my pictures. I can insert pics on every site in this planet but seemingly not in the OFC.For now I make a new album, maybe one day I´ll be wiser.

"end of the fretboard the white binding was missing" They call the piece a "mustache" and they may be able to send you one if you want...not sure if they charge but sent me one at no cost when rebuilding a 1659 CL.

Dan Savage has a cool jig for making a new mustache. I've made a mustache with a simpler wooden jig and a heat gun. I would be happy to make one for you, though if you can talk Dan into doing it his will be a bit better than mine. Or, you can try to make it yourself.

Trace the shape of the end of the fretboard and then cut out a male/female mold from wood (or aluminum would be ideal). What you'll do is press a piece of warmed binding in the mold, then use a heat gun to soften it up even more. Keep it clamped until cooled. Cutting the mold symmetrically was for me the hardest part.

Also, the middle point of the mustache is the toughest thing to get to look right. I think a 2-step process would be best. Use one jig just to mold the point, then use a second jig to mold the rest of it. It isn't difficult, just a bit fiddling.

Check w/Budny and the crew...it would be a lot easier and they may have a bunch. It would also match the width and color of the binding.

I rounded and polished the edges, with the carvings the "moustache" is not necessary, I love the look of the dark ebony vanishing in the dark soundhole. Besides that I would make one myself anyway, that´s quite easy.
Thanks to Nancy for help with the pics!

I looked at the first post and the problem is the dropbox URL. When I view the image URL in a new tab, I'm able to see it.

I tried inserting an image into this post using the rich text editor. When I drop the same URL into the Insert Image dialog box, it's not loading the image. When I load images from my server (GoDaddy) I do the same thing, then tab to the next field and it loads the image size, which tells me the image is being read properly.

It looks like either the OFC isn't able to load the image or dropbox is blocking the hot link.

Dan
