That one is in GREAT shape!! And half the price of what I paid too! Thank you for sharing this Lonnie!
It even has the CoA with it!

Tony, does it look like the gold on the decal is very faint on this one too???

Patch! HOLY BUCKETS that is GORGEOUS!!!! And throws my theory of the gold on the decal deteriorating over time, right out the window!!! WOW!!!!

The gold will fade over time. It was a multi stencil done like they did on Hitchcock chairs, basically a silkscreen but with metal screens.

Nah, just thought the house next door was a nice backdrop.

We're living elsewhere now. That street was way too busy to have small kids running around.

Nancy, don't feel bad about paying a grand. I bet the one listed on ebay will be in that ballpark when the sale is complete. They are worth it. Mine is acoustic only...an A/E would be nice. I rec'v mine 3 years ago.

The gold hasn't faded too much but the prior owner never played it. Sat in its case for 36 years untouched.

I can't help but wonder....why exactly does the gold stencil fade?

Patch,

I don't know why either unless it is the absorption of the finish to the decal OR slight dulling of the catalyzed polyester. However, I have had or seen several Patriots and the decal was always defined.

I believe the clear catalyzed polyester, as in other finishes, does have a very minor clouding after many years...I had a 1168 Custom Legend 12-string (1980 NAMM guitar)...the abalone inlaids were so bright against a dark sunburst top that I was shocked...yet wonderful.

My 1658 Custom Legend (1980) that I got in December 2003 suffered UPS damage and was sent to the factory where they took the top down to bare wood. When I got it back, very bright abalone compared with several other 1979-1985 1658's and a 1659. The 6759 Custom Legend (yr 2000, used on Elton John tour) had far brighter abalone than the early 1979-1985 CL's.

Nancy... Just play it an be happy.

As to what happened to the Gold?...

A coupla years ago, gold was worth $1800/oz.
Some dummy might have removed it hoping to get a coupla hundred bucks.

Or, some dummy might have thought it was a good idea to aggressively polish the guitar.

Either way... some dummy did it.

Hey Beal, is this the same type stenciling that was used on the original O heads for the logo and model name? I have noticed that the model and O logo on my well used 67 is barely visable, where on another, that has resided in its case most of its life, is very clearly seen.

Lonnie - 2015-04-08 10:01 AM Nancy, No problem. I just realized that this guitar is located at a pawn shop, here in Phoenix!! I may need to take a detour on my way home today...

I am following this one and may put in a bid if it stays within affordable range. But I would like to ask the seller a few questions and when I try I get this:

"We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing."

That's a bit odd for sure. So Lonnie,  if you have a chance to check it out please let us know.

Good Luck D'Ovation, I really hope it goes to an OFC member!!!

The Ebay page is letting me ask a question... did you go all the way down to the bottom of the page, and hit
"Questions and answers about this item" return,
"Ask a Question", return,
"Other" (all the other ones are worthless) return,
"Continue" return,
page to type a Topic and area to ask Seller your Questions.

Oh I tried all options. Maybe he just does not want to deal with Canucks. Nancy - about how far away from Winnipeg are you?

LOL!!!! In my experience, the Canadians are the nicest people you will meet!
Except that liters for a gallon of gas is confusing....

If You would like, since I can get it to go through, if you let me know the questions you wanted to ask, I will write them, and get the answers for you! Just PM me with what you want to ask!
