Joined: January 2015 Posts: 8 | Hi folks, I'm new on the forum. I've made some researches but I've not found any thread corresponding to my problem... I have a 1995 Elite longneck DS-768 with an optima preamp. The tuner doesn't function anymore. Even with a new battery, the green light doesn't clip and the leds stay irremediably dark... I think that these parts are obsolete and impossible to find. So I'll try to repair or have it repaired. I've found the service manual with schematics but it seems that the page 3 of 4 is missing. And it's an important one, with Eq, FET... I think... Does anyone have the complete schematics ? Does anyone has had this kind of problem ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Pierre from France ![]()

This seems not completely complete, but it does include the parts relevant for troubleshooting the tuner circuit I believe. It could be a bad connection/solder joint somewhere in the signal chain from FET to tuner circuit or the power to the tuner circuit. As I read the diagram called "Slider board" the circuitry in the upper left corner forms an analog timer for the voltage supply to the tuner board. Edited by tpa 2015-02-26 2:30 PM

So I have ordered a 2N5088 transistor and I'm going to change Q201, and maybe C201 capacitor. I hope that will fix the problem. What do you think? Pierre

Remember, there was - and for many guitars still is - a time, when there was no on-board tuner. But it seems as if you have some knowledge about electronics, then you may try and if it doesn't work, vou either clip a tuner or use a cable. And - beside that - Ovations are very constant in staying in tune... P.S. - Picked the box today, well packed. Opened it at the store, because it has been there for three days, so it was acclimated. Just a brief look, did not take it out. The top was undamaged. Hope it goes on like this. She went from New York to Humble in Texas, then to Miami and crossed the Atlantic, arrived Rotterdam by ship in a container and made the final miles in a Pick-up to the Cologne area. I hope the second and longer glance will be satisfying as well. I'll let you know. Got a suitable price, they charged less than $100 for the transport. Of course there was custom fees, but its amount was as expected. 275€ in total, the guitar was $1000.

Joined: January 2015 Posts: 8 | Hello, After spending the whole afternoon testing my preamp and re-soldering some parts without setting the problem, I finally found that the failure was coming from the little tuner board itself, probably the micro chip. And as the inscriptions on it are half deleted, I can't determine what type of IC it is to try to find another one. So I put out a new call on the forum. If somebody know what part this little chip is or if somebody has a dead optima preamp with a functioning tuner board, please PM me, I would be happy to buy! Otherwise I would take Damon's suggestion. For Flysig, John Budny answered me. Unfortunately they have no more parts for the Optima, nor repair sheets. Thanks for helping!
