Mike... have something to say or don't have something to say but don't play the "I've got a secret" game with us.
.
We all wish for Ovation to come back but we might not like what we get.
The combination of talent, experience and machinery at New Hartford can never be duplicated. Therefore, the product would be the same in name only.

MusicMishka - 2015-02-13 9:15 AM ...its so nice to think that the majority of the inventory from New Hartford is in storage, or went to the buyers of Guild, etc. but in fact, it was much more financially benificial to Fender to write off said inventory as a capital loss...so what happened to the Guild, Fender Custom Shop guitars, etc. ? There are many people who know...!

I was thinking more of the whole inventory of unfinished stuff too, like premium tonewoods and other things. As for some of the finished guitars, there are some threads on the Guild forums that suggest that many of the finished guitars were sold in bulk to some interested dealers way below wholesale, and I think Alpep secured some Adamas when the end came near. The Guild custom shop operated for only about a year, and I doubt they produced a huge number of guitars in that time, though I noticed quite a few of those on ebay substantially below the list price.

There oughta be a Law, with no bail,
You smash a guitar and you go to Jail.
With no chance for early parole,
You don't get out until you get a little Soul.

But for in the financial world it is more profitable to bandsaw a bunch of guitars and sell the machinery for scrap.

There's really nothing more annoying than this type of crap

I'm pretty close to many people from the factory.

I know pretty much that most stuff got dumpstered.
it's the corporate way.......

was some stuff saved? sure .....
how much?

let's says even if they wanted to put a line of ovation guitars out again they would be hard pressed to come anywhere near the lowest production numbers they ever had.....

mike if you know different say it

I have a Fender Custom Shop guitar that was built in New Hartford

I think what is saddest for me... beyond friends who have lost jobs, or guitars that are no longer being built, is the History that is gone. Ovation was the model of what is referred to as Yankee Ingenuity. The devices, machinery and tools that were designed to build Ovation guitars are in at least a few cases works of art unto themselves. It's sad that it seems most of that will be lost. Everything from the pedestals to hold the bowls, to the machine used for putting on binding to the machine used to put necks together made of Fire Hose!!! The fret machine and even the string holder piece of furniture and much much more. Things that are unique and works of art and engineering all by themselves. I don't mean to lessen any of the other losses, but these additional losses kind of put it over-the-top in suck-factor. It's like kicking someone when their down... it's the "and your little dog too" after the already bad news.

Perfectly Put, Mr Ovation! I remember watching the YouTube video over and over on how they were built, and being in awe of the machinery that they had invented to create these pieces of Art. And the care and pride that each person put into their "spoke of the wheel". It really is American Ingenuity at it's finest! Too bad they don't make it a Historical Place to be preserved...

As long as you remember, it's still alive. Sucks though, the roughshod & callous opportunism & greed.

This stuff happens every week in every industry and we pay very little attention to it. THIS one hurts only cos it's a product close to our hearts
