Sam,

Congratulations on your purchase. I recently bought myself a Book Elite from Patch here on the OFC. It's a great sounding guitar and I couldn't think of a better guitar to use while learning to play.

He is keeping it until Saturday for a basic set-up, new strings, and an internal dusting and cleaning of the electronics.

Tell your luthier to put extra light strings on your Book Elite. Preferably, Elixir Acoustic Guitar 80/20 Bronze Extra Light NanoWeb Coating, .010 - .047.

Your fingers will thank me later.

Dan

Thank you for the advice Dan I will certainly take it. He already put the new strings on, but I need to learn to restring it myself anyway. Amazon has the strings you are recommending for $13.50, does that seem reasonable?

I will tell my fingers to thank you again in a few days.

$13.50, really? Maybe there is a multi hole Taylor out there somewhere.

Hi Sam,

You're welcome. $13.50 is an okay price. I usually order mine through JustStrings.com. They get $12.90 per set.

As long as you're going to be putting on your own strings, get a string winder. It makes the job a lot easier.

....if I would own and could also afford a Ferrari, I would not let it go only because I am not a Formula 1  driver, and then buying a Porsche instead.

There was a Book Elite sold last year 50miles  from my home on ebay, buy it now was 999€, which is something between 1200/1300$.

Unfortunately, I did not see the offer until it was sold, although I do have a search on ebay. Sad, I would kick my a... if I only could.

so:

If you wanna sell it, sell it. Otherwise play it.

I have taken your advice and started to play my guitar. I am having a one unexpected challenge; my deep bowl, and my deep belly keep trying to occupy the same space at the same time.

You can't eat while you're playing, so the more you play the less you eat.

Just to piggy back on Old Man Arthur, go buy yourself a $300 used Ovation from the 1980's. It will have some small dings, scratches, and wear on it. Put it on a Hercules floor stand or wall hangar within easy reach. String it with some easy to play strings, such as Silk n Steel or extra-light phosphor bronze. Play it a lot for 6 months. You'll get used to not accidentally bashing it against furniture or the wall. You'll learn how to play it without putting pick tracks on it. You'll learn not to lean it against a wall even for a moment or to leave it on a chair. Pretty soon you'll feel comfortable that you're not going to do anything terrible to it by accident.

Then get out your beautiful Book Elite and play it like there's no tomorrow.

I think all of us here would love to have your Book Elite, but we would feel we cheated you out of it!
