I am from Germany. My name is Georg, I am 50 years old and live in Cologne.
I am member of this board for almost two years, but never posted so far.
My first acoustic guitar was a roundback, an US applause from the Mid 70s which I bought in the late 80s, soon followed by two Celebrity models.
Then I spent several years playing bass in a TOP 40 Band.
After that, I tried singer/songwriter style and was looking for a guitar to be tuned down one or better two steps, because that suits my singing. I got "lost" with trying several Takamine and Guild, since I could not get hold of a Longneck.
Finally and thanks to the internet, 2009 I was offered even two Longnecks at the same time, a korean DCS247S in BCB and a DS 768 CCB from 1995.
I could not decide, so I bought both.
I started playing an acoustic duo, played the 768 and borrowed the Korean guitar to my mate.
2010, I was able to get another 768, a 1994 blond (according to the list with production times shown on www.ovationtribute.com, Longnecks have been built only from 1995 on, but the serial number says something different...)
Two years ago, I was able to buy another one, a 2001 with deep bowl (it says DS 768 Longneck on the label in the bowl), but it looks like the later DS 778. This guitar also got abalone inlays on the fretboard and the headstock ist black. Maybe a custom made? Anyway.
You see, for some reason I cannot stop buying longnecks and it's not easy for me to let one go, when there is the rare opportunity to buy one in germany.
Actually, I bought my first guitar in the US, after I found a way to get them over at an acceptable rate. It's a 2007 DS 778 in black, sold on reverb.com.
Hopefully it arrives save!
I do also collect photos/information of Ovation Longnecks guitars from the internet, most found so far on the US bay, elderly. craigslist, reverb pp.
I just love to see and play them.
I may have one or two special questions on the longnecks, regarding their production etc., but this can last.
Once again, hello everybody and do have a good 2015! I do appreciate that there is this fine Forum, with a lot of people spending time and effort on it.
It's a pity that the mothership has been run down, but I hope the OFC will go on.
