Joined: January 2015 Posts: 8 | I've been away from Ovation for a few years - sold my lefty Legend 1777 a few years ago and now I'm watching a few lefties for sale various places online... a couple questions for the experts around here: 1. Am I crazy to pay $499 for an '82 USA Ovation lefty that is in very good shape and has its hardshell case? This one has no electronics in it, but that doesn't bother me - I can add them later if I decide to. 2. Where are the remaining "Ovations" (which used to be Celebrity's, I believe) being made today? Korea or China? None of these have solid tops, do they? Thanks for the opinions and info! (If it's against the rule to discuss price ranges, etc. please let me know! ![]() Mike

You could try searching for recently closed auctions on eBay to get a sense of it. Seems like a fair price, though. You could probably get a righty in good shape for less. 2) Yes, somewhere over there in East Asia. probably whoever is the lowest bidder at the moment. Many of the AX/TX O's will have solid tops even though they are built overseas, but they will also have things like glued on necks, etc. So buyer beware.

I waited and waited for Ovation to make a lefty version of their contoured bodies ... I was told by my local dealer once that it would never happen, and he turned out to be right. Shame ... I would'a ordered one for sure! I really liked the redesign of the neck shape, among other things...but that's all water under the bridge now. AX/TX O's ... not familiar with these ... I've got some more learnin' and research to do. Thanks again. Edited by Mikeymac 2015-01-03 8:01 AM

(imho) And as you said, lefty Os are harder to find. my 2¢, try a bit of good old-fashioned haggling. Worst the seller can say is no.

Yeah, I might call them (it's a store) on Monday and do some haggling - it's listed online, and I suspect it'll still be there after the weekend. Thanks SOBeach - looks like you've got a nice collection of O's and A's... ![]()

I've paid more for guitars than the rock bottom market price at the time and never been sorry. I haven't made money when I've sold one or two of them, but in the big scheme of things the difference wasn't much, so my rental was maybe $1/week while I owned them. The ones I keep (almost all of them) I get plenty of pleasure out of. Certainly haggle and get the best price you can. If you're not sure you'll keep the guitar then be a bit pickier about price in case you turn around and sell it soon. Any USA O in good condition is "worth" $499 when it comes to bang for the buck.
