Joined: February 2004 Posts: 2487 | I have picked up Dave Mathews The Space Between. Great song I am currently doing it in a drop D and I have it sounding pretty good. Question; do any of you guy's happen to know what the tunning is Dave uses on this song. I have seen clips of him playing and I know he has a different string setup than the standard EADGBE. Anyone? I am pretty familiar with finding alternate tunnings but this one has me kinda stumped. I can get away with it the way I have it but I am anal about cover music and when doing someone elses music I try and copy it as closely as possible. Thanks

There are nine versions at this site (Ultimate Guitar), not counting the "Guitar Pro" and "Power Tab", which need special downloaded, for pay, programs... Hope that helps...

I personally can't stand the guy, but I'm sure there is a vast Legion of mindless Matthews droogies out there who post everything from tunings to lunch preferences on the Internet. He lost me after "Under the Table & Dreaming" . . .

Joined: February 2004 Posts: 2487 | Thanks guy's, there are a few variations I have not tried in that stuff but he is using a completely different guitar tuning I just can't quite figure out. I will get it with a little time. Just keep playing it in the drop D until I do. Cliff, its funny your not the only person who is a musician that I have heard this from. I can't say I am a big fan of his, I do not own a CD other than one I found at a garage sale for a buck. I do like this particular song very much though. His musical timing/meter and chord arrangements are facinating to play. He has a lot of the qualities that I enjoy with Stings music so much. There is an odd meter to begin with and then he changes the way he fits his lyrics into a measure. If you hear "The Space Between" on the radio or Youtube it give it a listen for me again will ya? We may not message each other very well sometimes but I find our musical tastes are very similiar to mine most times and I just love this song its sound and its lyrics. I think this guy is worth another look. He is very good and his band is so freeking hard to copy because of the violin and sax makes him just that much cooler to me.. Now he does have a lot of stuff I have never listened to all the way through because I am lost to it, but he is a very talented musican. Thanks for the guitar tab sites I will search some more! I love trying figure this shit out, it is as much fun as playing it in the end. Randy
