| Hi All
Just a question.. Is the sound of the 1615 Pacemaker really so bright with no body and deep end? I just got one and compared to the 1866 legend 12 strings that sounds beautiful, it sounds awful.. Just wondering if there is a problem with the pickup or the preamp, but someone here already said that might only be the pacemaker sound... If so, do you think it's possible to upgrade pickup and preamp to make it sound good as an Ovation should?

Lighter gauge? Maybe Silk-n-Steel?
If it sounds alright acoustically, but sounds too bright plugged-in....
That could be the amplifier settings or the type of amp.
Personally, I owned a 1115 Pacemaker...
It was LOUD. Without ever using an amplifier.
But I could really change the sound of the guitar by changing the strings.

Location: Jet City | OMA's right, changing the strings will change the sound. I've tried many, including silks (I think I had silks on one I sold to Mr. O).
I've tried to like these guitars 4 or 5 different times now, thinking maybe I just hadn't found the right one. But I never did find one with a sound I liked.
I prefer the tone of an Elite or Adamas 12 over a Pacemaker, but so many people swear by them, it must just be me. |

| You're right, strings does change the sound, but the guitar goes straight in the P.A. through a DI box, and trying first the Legend 1866 and then the pacemaker it sounds like someone put a filter cutting everything below 2oo Hz and boosting 3000 up. That's why I wonder if there's somenthing wrong with the piezo or preamp. The difference is HUGE. And that's why I'm asking if do you think it's possible to install a new piezo and a new preamp on the Pacemaker, one of the new preamps I mean...

Location: Utah | I have never heard an Ovation which sounded so drastically different. Something seems to be wrong with either the preamp or the piezo. |

Location: Cork, Ireland | I find the Pacemaker is not a particularly bassy guitar when played acoustically compared to the 6-strings that I play. More bassy when plugged directly into an electtic guitar amp but the brightness is there too. |
