| Welcome Gerald. Figure $300-500 for a neck reset, fret dressing, and setup to action of your choice. Your mileage may vary depending on just how much needs to be done. It's well worth it to have the folks in Connecticut do the job. I have one up there now for similar work, and wouldn't send any of my O's anywhere else. |

Location: europe | i have a friend who owns a adamas I, he bought the guitar at sam ash in the late 80s. i was with him when he bought it and now the guitar. he used the adamas on stage a lot and one day it fell from the stand and broke the neck. i don t know where he had it repaired but it was done some years ago. recently he told me he want to sell it and i have the first priority because i always loved it.
the price would be around 900 because the neck repair.
do you think that an adamas I with a neck repair would be fine and i think the price is ok. gerry |

| gerald - if the neck repair was done at the factory I wouldn't hesitate. Find out. If not, check with Al at Lost Art Vintage (one of this board's founders). He might be able to set you up with one for a really good price. |

Location: europe | if the repair was not made at the factory - do you think it is still worth to take it for that price. can i have the repair redone at the factory and how much would be a neck repair.
i surfed throught this board here and read that the going rate for an adamas I is currently 2000 and little less.
is 900 usd a good price for an adamas with neck issues.
or would you guys think the price should be dropped.

How can anybody make an assessment on this guitar without seeing it? When you say the neck was broken then fixed, I don't know what that entails? Minor crack? Full snap off? You need to post some pics, otherwise, everybody here is just guessing with nothing to base the guess upon. |

Location: Tennessee | If it's been played for a bunch of years since the repair, and the guitar still plays well with good action, I doubt you'll have problems any time soon. I assume your friend wouldn't sell the guitar to you if he thought it was ready to let loose. As for the price, if you like it, then do it. |

Welcome Gerry.
If the guitar plays and sounds good and you can live with this imperfection - take it.
If the cosmetic issues bother you you can get a new neck installed at the factory. But: You have to pay for the repair and for two way shipping. I don't know where you are located, but from germany shipping would be 300 USD alone. Then add the neck install...
If you think about this, maybe it is better to buy one from Al or a used one from one of the members here or on the bay. Add customs, tax and shipping.
And if you think about that - I know a store in germany that has a brandnew 1687-8 Reissue for 2.100 Euros including shipping.

Location: Germany | Kurt, I hate to say this but your shipping fee is far out. Recently I shipped my Adamas II to the service department and DHL charged 48 Euros ($70) insured. Currently they are working on a completely new customized neck and fretboard.
Gerry, in Europe $900 is a bargain for an old Adamas I even if there are some cosmetical (not structural!) issues. And if these issues should bother you, send the guitar to the mothership. You will get it back in near mint condition for much less than what you have to pay for a new one, e.g. the 1687 reissue.

maybe i will send it to the factory for a perfect repair and have it damaged again by ups or fedex ;-))

Location: europe | is it possible to modify the existing neck to get a carved neckheel like the slotheads had.
if i do not like the neck because of the neckrepair - is it possible to get a adamas I replacement neck, similar to the slothead necks with the carved neckheel.

Location: europe | i checked the guitar of my friend and found out that it actually is not an adamas I, it is a adamas II, very nice guitar with a cutaway, black finish but i thought it was a one. i was a little bit disapointed after i dream already about owning an adamas I for a reasonable price. so i was checking for other offers and found a dusty blue adamas I also with a neckrepair. the repair show that the neck was dowelled through the fretboard where you can see two dots.
the neck was painted also black. i did not play or see the guitar in nature. the nut was damaged when the neck broke and replaced.
i could get it for 1 grand. what do you guys think about it. i can not confirm that it is playing well because i have only the photos. it should be a 1988. brgds gerry
