Hello -- as the old-timers here know I'm only allowed to post in here because I'm new. I have purchased a 1992 1869-1 Custom Legend online with an OP-24 preamp, NOT the OP-24+ or any other variety. Just a single knob and bass, midrange and treble sliders.

My question is this: I have had no luck finding a manual on this preamp, and as the guitar is on its way to me as we speak, could someone tell me where the battery compartment is and how to change the battery? Or even better, send me a link to this manual? The only links I have found go to updated versions of the preamp, not this one.

Thanks very much
Tony Ford

If it doesn't have a battery box beside the preamp...
Look for a slotted "screw-head" in the bowl.
Either beside the preamp, or on the other side.
This is Not a screw... This is the battery box retainer.
You must look inside for a battery box.
This is usually a real box, but sometimes it is a clip thingy.
Either way, here's how you do it...

You loosen the strings so that you can get your hand inside the bowl.
(or do this when you are changing the strings)
While holding the battery box, turn the slot-head 90° counter-clockwise.
This should release the box.
Oh! Push the box toward the outside to compress the spongy stuff.

The box has a sliding cover.
Be sure to note the polarity of the battery before removing it.
Often there isn't anything telling you which way the battery goes-in and it will fit both ways.

Once you get it out, you will see how it goes back in.
That retainer is just a quarter-turn slotted arrangement.

Use a Duracell/Energizer/Rayovac single use 9v and it will last a Year in the OP-24.
Hope that helps...

Great, thanks very much. I have a couple of newer ones where the whole box pops out. Sounds like a bit of a hassle to do it, but once a year I can live with.

I appreciate your help!
