Argh, after fiddling around getting the new FET preamp installed into the 1537, the old knobs don't fit on the pot shafts. The old knobs and old pots measure out at 1/4". The new pot shafts are .27", slightly fatter than the old ones. Some newfangled metric dimension most likely.

I'm not going to drill the brass bushings in the old knobs. Gotta figure out some way to take down the new shafts a little bit, keeping them concentric as much as possible.

The new saddle fits fine.

I hope you did not start yet with this. The brass bushing in the knob is much easier to work with than the steel shaft. Besides that there´s the danger of pulluting the electrics with the metal swarf when you try to manipulate the shaft. The brass inset can be removed from the wooden knob ( use little heat, such as from an hairdryer) and then the inside diameter can easily be changed with a file or similar tools. There´s no need to work this out highly precise, you need no turning lathe, just the brass piece should fit quite easy on the shaft, the rest will be fixed by the grub scew later.

If you can get a hold of John Budny, he may have the new knobs they made for the RIs that had the two knob preamps. They looked the same as the old 1537 knobs, but fit bigger shafts.

Thanks for the idea, Mark. That would be the best solution.
