Location: moline,illinois | Hey guys I found an Adamas 1587 that has been modified with banjo tuners for sale on eBay.
I've done a little research of my own and discovered Adrian Legg played an Adamas modified this way I guess for quick tuning changes and to use the Nashville style tuning.What I am wondering is how hard would it be to return this guitar to original or do you think they modified the headstock to fit the new tuners.It looks like a sweet guitar and i'd love to get a deep bowl textured top Adamas and will probably bid on it and hope I can return it to its original condition. |

If that's the case Ovation tuners, or Grovers, or probably a lot more, will fit in there.
There were probably Schallers in there originally.
The ones without screws... just dimples.
So you could put whatever you want, just drill some screw holes.
Or get the correct ones.
BTW-- I was the first bidder on that... But I have since spent the money.

Location: moline,illinois | Thanks OMA I'm hoping they got replaced with similar diameter tuners so the original headstock didn't get drilled out.
Glad I'm not biding against you but you already have an Adamas I believe so here's hoping the banjo tuners will keep this one from going through the roof on price and I can get it. |

Actually, when I had my custom made banjo built, I had him put guitar tuners on it.  |

Location: moline,illinois | I presume BG is the color code for the blue/green finish its on the label.it is the same style as the one d'ovation posted a pic of and I believe its Adrian Legg holding the guitar in the picture must have been a fan of his that bought the guitar and had it modified,if you watch his u-tube videos he does some tuning changes during songs by twisting the tuning knobs on the back,still not sure of the purpose of the swap kind of like putting a sunroof on a convertible corvette lol |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Those are Kieth tuners. They have stops so you can turn them and they will go to one pitch, then turn them back to regular pitch. Scruggs tuners are bulkier but achieve the same thing. You don't have to worry about not getting back to pitch like you would if you used regular tuners. |

Same principal as Hipshot tuners.
They are very accurate and return back to the exact pitch if they are set up properly. |

That means they will work very well, smooth and precise. You don't have to use the detune/tune function, but if you ever wanted to you could. I would just leave them in place and glory in the fact that you had a great guitar with the coolest tuners ever made. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Check out the cover of The Very Best of Adrian Legg. The guitar and tuners look familiar, but it's tough for me to tell. I thought Adrian's website had something about his guitar, but it's not on his current website. I talked to him about his guitars after one of his concerts. He either told me or I read it somewhere that he had to quit using the Adamas because his back hurt, so he had someone build the guitar he now uses. He definitely told me that he really liked the Ovation people and mentioned Bill.
Anyway, back to the tuners, Adrian still does a lot of tuning changes on the fly. I've seen him 3 times, but didn't pay much attention to the tuners on his current custom guitar. |

Hey Canterbury Strings thanks for all the info,I guess its just the purist in me that felt an Adamas should be returned to as original condition as possible.Presuming I win the guitar(fingers crossed) I think I'll have to play with them a bit and see if they're as cool as the videos show,i'm still learning about the Keith tuners, why I posted to get the clubs insights, so who knows I may keep them and have a unique awesome guitar.
I had already checked out some of the Adrian Legg videos I just didn't know how the stops worked to create easy precise tuning changes, he is an amazing fingerpicker who used to play ovations but created his own special guitar because of back problems, truly a dedicated artist. |
