This one is unusual in that it has the 18 frets-to-the-body neck as opposed to 16 yet has the narrower pickup spacing.

In the last years of the Storm series (71-72), they attached the neck at the 16th (or was it the 18th?) fret to give players more neck to use. This was in hopes of giving the guitars more appeal (and use up the last of the inventory).....

It was the 18th, as is the one in the auction.

The JR and GC Thunderhead set that I have are from 1970 and have the later, 18th fret necks. Possibly they were the first to have this? No way to ever know for sure.
