Location: Jet City | A GP is a great $500-1000 guitar in my mind. Anything more, and you're paying for the fact that JH played them once a long time ago.
And if you're buying it cuz of that, well, Al's got the real deal. May as well get one of Josh's. |

but it's a supply vs. Demand issue on those bad boys right? I love my Preacher
Deluxe, so I guess I'll have to live with that one. Could be worse things... like a Mexican strat. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I guess it depends on how you look at it. I tend to break it down to the basics. What would I have to pay for a new, set-neck guitar with similar hardware today? Oh, and I want some confidence it's going to last at least 30 years.
And now lets take a look at one of Josh's ultra gp's. He toured with it, some NBC tech broke it, it was repaired, and I hear it still plays better than most guitars you can buy for under $1000 today and...
Then there's just value for value sake. If you have $2500 to spend on a guitar. You can buy something that everyone else has, or buy a sturdy guitar that's kinda cool looking that sounds and plays just as good as those other guitars that everyone else has and will last.
Don't get me wrong. When it's all said and done, you have a set-neck guitar assembled in the USA by some of the finest craftsman in the world made with some of the best hardware from the USA and Germany with the bodies and necks from Korea. If that's what you want, there aren't many choices out there.
Is it worth it... is too subjective and personal question. Worth is ONLY a measure of value at the time of sale between the parties. It has little meaning outside of that context unless you're talking insurance, and then you're just placing a long term bet. |
