Long time reader, first time post-er. I think I may have made a mistake: I sold my '94 custom legend (1869) last week before I could celebrate its 20th anniversary. I was distracted by a crack in the finish that had been there for years, and somehow thought it was time for a change. I could have just had the top replaced; John at Ovation quoted a very decent price. Sad, for so many reasons, was the news that the factory is closing. Missed out on a 5869-5P on eBay. Went for a bigger change and bought a 2002-AC. I've owned elites and an Adamas II in the past (the sale of those hurt too), but this collectors is, of course, a different animal. Still getting used to it. Don't get me wrong, it's a GORGEOUS guitar in excellent shape. It's just that I could have researched it more at the FanClub before jumping on it. It obviously doesn't sound like an AAA spruce top that's had years of breaking in (I know, why should it?), and it's the "little things" I miss about the 1869 like the shape, gloss, and speed of the neck. Sorry for whining. My point: Has anyone been looking for a 2002-AC? I paid $1195 and shipping. Frets may need dressing around 14 where the fingerboard meets the body. Second related point: I don't see any under the For Sale forum, but any black 1869s from before the LX that might be available other than through on-line searches?
Thanks for everything. |
