Hi, everyone!

I am new here, and hope to get lots of good info about Ovation guitars.

I am looking to possibly trade a guy for an Ovation Celebrity cc045 12 string, made in China. I have a Tokai ES 60 335 copy, worth maybe 450-500. I don't play the Tokai at all, and I want an Ovation 12 string.

Is the cc045 a good instrument? I would be using it plugged in for live performance - my current 12 is an old plywood Yamaha with an LR Baggs M1a pickup in it, and I would like a better sound, if I can get it.

Is the Chinese cc045 a good guitar, in your minds? Sound decent? What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much! Great forum.

It's one of the cheaper Ovations, but should serve your purposes well. Ovations tend to all sound pretty good when plugged in. Make sure the action is good (there's a lot of pressure on a 12 string neck), it can be adjusted, but because it is a set (glued) neck, you shouldn't touch it if it's too far off.

Thanks for the reply! I am kind of worried that these less expensive Ovations are not well built, and I won't be able to tell right away - and then it will be too late. How do the Chinese Ovations hold up long term? I have played plenty of overseas guitars that were well built and played really well, so I know that the possibility exists. Is there anything I should look for? I have to make a decision by Saturday.

Thanks so much for the info, everyone!

If it's ok now, it should be good in the long term. Plywood tops are probably stronger than the solid tops, and the body and neck are Ovation-strong. Quality control can be a bit hit and miss with the Asian Ovations, but if it passes your quality control, it should stay that way.

Hey, Damon - does that video (poor guitar!) mean that the Celebrity (made in Korea, I've found - not China) is tough enough to handle a catapulting, or that the guitar is junk and only worth catapulting? lol

Looking at the guitar on Saturday - wish me luck!

Well it might need a slight truss adjustment and some tuning
