I played the Lusty Red for the first time plugged in, leading worship last night at church (stunk up the joint, but that was just me). I didn't have much time to play with it, but whatever I did the sound was what I would describe as "scratchy". I took a ton of midrange out, but still got that sound. What should I do for a more natural acoustic sound? Upgrade the OP30?

That's part of your problem, taking out too much mid. You need more than you think, especially as the volume goes up. That "scooped mid" tone is fine at low volume, but if you need to be heard, or are competeing with other instruments it'll cause the problem you describe. Could also be down to a crappy sound system, or a poorly-Eq'd good sound system.

Generally, if you find you need to do extreme (more than 2 or 3dB) cutting and/or boosting on your onboard controls to get a good sound, it's something other than the guitar at fault.

Thanks. I tried it flat and all over the place. I have no doubt that it's a poor sound system also.

Also, is there a preamp that just "sounds better"? That's a fit for the OP30?

Doesn't sound like an OP30 problem.

Thanks. I think I'll go back over there and hook it up and play around to see what I get.

I agree that it doesn't sound like the problem is your preammp. Do any other guitars sound good through the system?

Y'know... I'd have to say no. But I thought my S771, also with OP30, sounded better.

I suggest working with the soundman, assuming he/she has a good ear for acoustic sound, and experiment until everything is tweaked to sound good.

Paul is right. I get in there and set it myself, and they don't touch it. I need to take a friend I trust and experiment.

Jas, plug in back at the soundboard, so you can hear what the house is hearing.

What kind of pick are you using? My daughter's red flame Elite T sounded really clicky picky at first. Then we discovered that she was using a very hard plastic pick, not at all like a classic Fender. Changing picks made a big difference in the plugged in sound.

Thanks. I'll try a lighter one. I always have used Fender mediums. Clicky Picky may be what I'm hearing. Also I may put on Nano's or something coated.

A buddy of mine plays often guitar in church , thought the P A was No good , and bought a Valve Top , hooked it up to a Cab. with 2 Celestions , and he`s set...U might want to consider to do something like it...getting ye`r own sound reinforcement that is :)
