So with these US made LTD models - do they still have a LX neck, and what are the technological marvels that are hiding behind the gloss?

That's what I would have guessed. My 2008C was a huge leap in sound quality from my W597. Textured top v smooth top, hand-laid contour bowl v molded medium bowl. What made the difference? Both, probably.
