| Hello!
I've been trying to do some research on my Ovation. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it is from either 1987 or 1988. The serial# is 373463. I'm not sure why I cannot find any additional information on it. I see many cut away style body Ovations (Black in color) with a 1717 model number, but not one exactly like mine (which is not a cut away). Then I discovered maybe it is actually a 1717-5? However after Googling that model number, I still cannot find out any information on my guitar. I have no clue what it is valued at or the specs and I would like to figure that out.
Am I missing something obvious about this guitar that prevents me from finding out more about it? Can anyone help?
Thank you in advance!!

The serial number dates it to '88. Can you describe the neck and fretboard? Are the inlays dots or diamonds? Is the fretboard bound with ivoroid or not?
These details can help us narrow down the model number a bit. |

| Hiya, Patch!
Thanks for the help...I sure do appreciate it!
The inlays are indeed diamond shaped and yes to the ivoroid. |

HERE is your guitar on the Ovation website.
HERE is a black one. But maybe not exactly like yours.
Your preamp may be different. They changed by the year.
Look around both websites for interesting info.
As to value... That is way too subjective. $300 to $1300 depending on the condition.
Originally, the MSRP on your guitar was around a thousand dollars.

| Wow! Thanks for all the help, guys.
Yes, I know it's football day, so I understand. GO STEELERS!! ...Oh, wait. They aren't in the playoffs this time. Darn them anyway! Uh.... Go Denver!?
I really don't remember even paying that much for my Ovation. I was young and not too far out of high school. How I could have afforded that, I'll never know, lol! I thought that I had paid somewhere around $400 back then, and it was new, but what do I know. It was so long ago. I can hardly remember what I did last week let alone what I paid in 1988.
The picture link that you provided is exactly like mine and it sure makes me feel better knowing a little bit more about my model.
Thanks again!! |

I can't be certain, but we just may be related. We sure do think a lot alike. |
