Ya know, it's only now that I remember I shot myself this morning.
Apparently it was just not enough.

Getting back to your question:

". . Has anyone else noticed that bananas are harder to open these days? . ."

The banana that we in NorthAmerica consume is a variety called the Cavendish.
The Cavendish has slowly replaced the variety that we've been USED to over the years, the Grosmichel(French for "BigMichael").

The Cavendish was considered to be a far inferior variety to the Grosmichele. The problem was that the Grosmichele gradually started becoming wiped out by a fungal infestation call "PanamaDisease".
Hence, the switch to the less popular (but "heartier") Cavendish.
Grosmicheles ARE still available in localized areas, just not commercially.

There is now evidence that PanamaDisease is starting to affect Cavendish bananas in some growing areas, as well. Since bananas are perfect clones to it's predecessor, infestation can spread quickly & widely. The fungus hasn't spread to LatinAmerica . . . yet.

Note: Americans consume more bananas than apples/oranges combined.

Funny...
I was thinking about this thread as I listened to "FreshAir" and thought to myself, "Bummer about the plight of the lovable banana... glad, however, to know I'm not arthritic..."

Does this apply to pickle jars?

Too *late*!

Could Elton John be the 'love child' of Donavan and Richard Simmons? ;)

When I worked at the Bronx Zoo, I actually saw the gorillas flinging their feces.
Maybe gorillas are smarter than we give them credit for. I don't like sitting outside with a bunch of that stuff laying around either!!! :o

Well, now that you mention it Jeffrey, . . ever since US-made pickle jars migrated from the all-rubber gasket to silicone . . . . .
