After some advise from Kim at the Mothership, I replaced the saddle & pick up (PU assy, there I said it.)on my 1617 Legend.
Man did she sound great!!! best $80 I ever spent.
Everyone commented on how good she sounded.

The material used for the saddle is "Delrin"
(the original nuts were made of some sort of polycarbonate, but are now bone.)
Over the years the strings created grooves in the saddle, also I was getting some distortion when strumming hard that replacing the battery and cleaning everything wouldn't help, so after discussing options, I replaced the entire pick up assembly which includes the saddle & pick up.
