From the Ovation Manual:
1. Remove the saddle carefully. This is a delicate operation particularly if you have an acoustic-electric model. Be certain not to pull or force the wiring beneath the saddle.
3. For lower than standard action, remove a shim beneath the saddle. Removing one shim will lower the action by 1/64" at the 12th fret.

Do I remove the white plastic piece or remove as a whole unit the metal seat and the white plastic piece together? I don't want to hose the pick up wiring.

Can't specifically answer the question but IMHO this guitar sounds like it could use a professional setup. Sure there are things you can do but I would tread lightly on some of it if you're not experienced. That's just one opinion though - others may disagree.

Adjusting Guitars is not rocket science. You just have to follow the correct order of what to adjust.

Remove the whole unit. If it appears to be stuck you can reach inside the guitar and GENTLY push up on the wire. I know the first time I did it I was a little skittish.

Thanks Capo Guy. The manual is not really clear on this procedure. Much appreciated.

Capo Guy, once you pull the whole unit out is there any particular way of disassembling the unit to get at the shims? I do not want to do anything to disturb my pick up.

The shims simply rest under the peizo/saddle assembly - all you'll need to do is lift that assembly out of it's slot in the bridge and then remove one (or more) of the shims. It's very easy, just don't break the wires. I always find it easier to push the pickup assembly up from inside the guitar.

- Loosen or remove strings for inside access and saddle/pup removal
- Remove saddle
- Reach inside and gently push up the pup lead as close to the soldered connection as possible
- From the top gently release and lift out the pup assembly comprising of the copper 'tray' and piezo 'wafer'.
- remove one shim
- reassemble and setup/test
- repeat as necessary

It's not difficult. Just go slow and be gentle (That's what she said!). :D

I had the same problem the first time I tried it. The white plastic thingy fell out and I didn't remember where it came from. The shims are usually brown and look like wafer board. They go in the bottom. Once you do one, the rest are easy.

Done. Sorry, I've been consulting several experts lately.
