Here is another great picture that Tal found while going through his father's Ovation odds and ends looking for info on my guitars.

It is a GC Storm Baritone guitar based on the bass guitar of the day.

It appears to have standard Thunderhead pickups and wiring. Also, note how the bridge is mounted at an angle to help with the intonation.

I'd love to hear how this one sounds and where it is today!

Wayne

It makes sense that Ovation built this as Glen had baritone guitar featured on many of his hits of the day.

I've never seen one of these. Doesn't look like the neck is bound......

I very much doubt that there is another anywhere. Yes, looks like an unbound neck.

Hello Wayne. So on the photos there, is the neck mounting cover plate on the back unique in its shape or were the bass bodies made with the same one?
Do you suppose it's us a bass neck made into a 6 stringer to keep the scale length correct, or does this one have a different bridge placement ? I don't actually have anything to compare it too. I've not found any further photos on this one at the moment

Unique is the word. The 12th fret area is interesting as well. It looks like it's a custom all the way. The neck from the back looks like it "fits" the neck joint area so it may be the same size as the Typhoon neck, but frets, tuners of a 6-string. With the way they do/did frets wouldn't be all that hard for them to do. The bridge angled is likely just for intonation so again, the top would have been drilled that way instead of the normal way. I also have never seen a neck plate like that. I did have a bass in this body style.

Yeah, very cool guitar. Wasn't it Galvaston? It had the 6 string bass at the end. This was made for that. I suspect that the neck bolt plate is just different to be different. I don't call the scale length, but I think it was longer than the normal 25 1/2.

Yes, definitely a longer than normal scale... you can tell by how the bridge is so far back and angled.

Beal, do you mean this guitar was used for the Galveston recording or for playing it live after the fact?
