Joined: August 2013 Posts: 10 | I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these guitars. 50 of them were signed of the body by Al and sold buy a large music store for Als charity in 2008-ish. I was wondering how this guitar compares to the ones they are selling now?

Aside from that it's a Legend with an OpPro preamp, same as the others. You should post pictures. You also might want to call Ovation customer service and see if they can add any more info.

When unplugged, it acts as "confidence boost" button. Try it.... you'll see. . Just to demonstrate the power of an artist endorsement.... When I bought my AD-II, I had no idea who Al DiMeola was. Muzza's got it right with the quotation marks. Interestingly enough, it's not actually a boost putton per se. The button, when disengaged, cuts the output by 4db. When you engage the button, it turns off the cut ... so it seems like a boost but in reality you're just getting what you originally dialed in.

That makes a lot more sense than a guitar player who hasn't heard of AL DI MEOLA~~~~~ Lots of people have no idea who Al DiMeola is... I had never heard of him until I joined the OFC. You can go to most "Top 100 Best Guitarist" list and Al DiMeola won't be on it. The only place I can find him is on YouTube if I look for him. You won't hear him on KNRK or KGON or WRKO. You likely won't hear him on your Local PBS Radio, and they play Jazz, Latin and other weird stuff. Excuse my rant... But if not for Ovation I would not know who Al Di, Melissa E, Josh White or DJ Ashba are. Nor Kaki King. Name a guitarist.... Jimi Hendrix Jerry Garcia Frank Zappa David Gilmour Slash Duane Allman Stevie Ray Vaughn Nancy Wilson Bonnie Raitt Orianthi Nope... no Al DiMeola.

I heard of AL 25yrs. ago on local KJZZ and I don't even like JAZZ. Open your mind...

I can appreciate the technique and the talent to play like that.... for about 5 minutes. Then I'm done. . I bought my DiMeola because it was a damn good guitar. In my case the signature on the head stock did not figure into my decision to purchase. And THAT is me having an OPEN MIND. . I've played identical models that have both under performed and over performed. Unless it's one of those that for some reason is less than it is supposed to be, keep it... play it. I just took it out for the lunch crowd... made a quick $12. Not much, but this guitar has paid for itself many times over. Oh... and I cut my hair.

Almost everyone has heard of Glen Campbell and he was the one most responsible for putting Ovation on the map. I loved Al Di Meola in the 70s and always considered him one of the biggest guitar virtuosos, though I only had him down as a LP player and had not much awareness of his acoustic work (except for Friday Night in SF). On the other hand I have never heard about Glen Campbell until I started to learn more about Ovations ... I guess I am not "almost everyone"
