Does anyone know anyone in the press?

Joined: July 2003 Posts: 3111 Location: Nashville TN. | Think I may need so mass media coverage to get enough votes to win. I sent this out but do not know if it would be effective RE: Local Man finalist Songwriter of the year. Dear Entertainment Editor, I would like to tell you story that would begin with the words once upon a time, had not been 100% true. A little over 10 years ago I decided I wanted to be a solo singer songwriter in country music. I gave myself 10 years start to get somewhere in the business or give it up back in July of 2003. I did this knowing on paper I was too old too bald and too fat to make it in music business. In May of 2013 I decided it was time to try my luck in Nashville. 10 years was almost up and all had to show fot it was opening for national acts at Marion Country Music festival, once in 2008. I arrive in July and wait in line at the Bluebird Cafe for 4 1/2 hours trying to play at their world famous open mic. (ABC Show Nashville built a sound stage replica of the place) I pulled number 67 in the lottery. No one past 35 gets to play. I got the play next time ticket, just like in my song, The Songwriters Blues. A song I had written before going to Nashville. This turned out to be a good thing. Next Monday the photographer from Nashville Open Mics was offering to video tape peoples performances. I was video taped playing my song “The Songwriters Blues” at the world famous Bluebird Cafe. There are 348 videos on Nashville Open Mics youtube channel. My video is the 7th most viewed. It was lucky break I had bad luck the first Monday. Tues. came and played Douglas Corner Writers Night. Did not go on until 1:30am I played 2 songs to an empty house. Next came Weds I went to sign up at 6pm for the open mic after writer’s night, at the Commodores Grill. Its hosted by Debi Champion. I sat there watching amazingly talented songwriters play their material from 7pm till 10 pm. I was very nervous and wondering if I even belonged there. At 10, I got to play one song and got what I thought was more than polite applause for my song “There Ain’t No Train to Nashville”. When I got off stage the host hand me a card and said “we are booking for November, call me”. I reached out took card with puzzled look on my face. Debi said, “ seriously hon call me tomorrow”. I was glad I was parked in back as lost it emotionally and with tears flowing down my face very shortly there after. I thought, I’m good enough for Nashville. I had been there 3 days, played 2 songs, and had a booking. That normally doesn’t happen like that. So I return to Nashville to play at Commodore on November 4th. I was booked again to play Feb. 19th. I scheduled another trip arriving on Feb. 17 on November the 5th. The CMA awards were on November the 6th and I was joking with people about finding a way in. Then I found a way in. I justified the expense by saying who knows I meet someone important. I did not meet anyone at the show. However, it was pouring rain when I left the Bridgestone Center, so I ducked into Robert's Western World on Broadway on way back. I met one of band members of the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. He invites me to come see them at the Opry on November 15th. One problem, I am supposed be leaving on November 13th. Well if a Opry Member asks you personally to attend the Opry; you are going to the Opry. I extend my trip till November 16th. Now that my trip I told owner of Daisy Dukes, I can play their open mic on Weds as my trip was extended. I got CMA tickets before he got back to me the previous week. He tells to come on Thursday instead to play something called the VRadio Nashville Showcase. Its a webcast. I get 1/2 hour of stage time. I also found out about Nashville Universe then. I joined it when I got home. In December the nominees for the Nashville Universe Awards are announced. I find myself nominated for song of the year and songwriter of the year. After the first round of voting ended on January 7th. The next day I find out I am one of the 5 finalists for songwriter of the year. The awards show is February 17th the day I already returning to Nashville. I was going to be there anyway. I spend I grand total of 23 days in Nashville. If I get enough votes, I can be the songwriter of the year on Nashville Universe. A fairy tale ending which is completely possible. Now if you are wondering about Nashville Universe, other finalist include duo of the year Florida Georgia Line, (who just set the worlds record for Digital downloads) and producer of the year, Doc Holiday. (he helped create the Sound of Asbury Park or S.O.A.P. that includes Bruce Springstien) Finals voting continues until January 31st at midnight central time. www.nashvilleuniverse.com Anyone who makes a profile can vote. If you like to hear my music you can see the Bluebird Cafe vid here http://tinyurl.com/ms3ms58 At the Guthrie Center in Great Barrington http://tinyurl.com/nkrsden at Infinity Hall Bistro in Norfolk. http://tinyurl.com/lwk36oa I am not a journalist but I think this could a compelling human interest/entertainment news story. | ||
