I've always been a fan of Ovation as well as the other guitars that for some reason or other are underrated. My main go-to guitars when I play out are my Ovation 1778lx and my Takamine TNV460SC. I have a couple old Guilds and a couple old red label Yamaha's as well. I have never owned a Martin or Taylor, ha, ha.
I've been tuning my Ovation down to D with medium strings on it of late to access a bunch more songs that are just in the uncomfortable range and it's really opened up some doors. That's when I stumbled across the LongNeck. I'm curious to opinions of it? Any idea the year range and number made? They seem to be hard to find!
Many thanks and cheers,
Dave |

If you find one of those, grab it. If you find a pile of money under your bed, you could custom order one or you could buy the following off a dealer brand new: http://www.ovationguitars.com/guitars/product/elite_d_scale_ds778tx
The TX guitars are made in Asia, so I'd recommend a second hand USA made one over the TX.
And if you get a long neck, put heavy strings (14s) on it for a real belly rumble.

Thanks for the links and review!
I'm not really fond of the textured black TX model, so it will definitely be one of the older models made in USA.
All the best. |

As for Longnecks I have one, and have opinions too.
First opinion, be careful on string choice. 14s are correct, specifically D'Addario EJ18. Don't use Baritone strings or anything heavier really. You can tune all the way down to a B successfully. If you need it lower than that, buy yourself a bass.
Here's a sample in B... [url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZPBrQNt0Fc#at=101
Second opinion, forget about the DS778, and look for a DS768. Unless you're stuck on mid bowls like your LX, you'll want a deep bowl to get all the rumble you can.
Last opinion (for now), awesome guitar! Go buy one. |

It should be a very good representation of what the guitar sounds like. It's not plugged in, it's got a condenser mic on it, then mixed in with the vocal mic, then the mix has a tiny touch of reverb from the main board... then straight into the camera. The EQ on the guitar and main board are flat and the audio was not edited in post production. It's pretty raw. |

Great clip.....you rock! Amazing rumble down in B. Thanks for the advise. I use D'Addario's on my other guitars, so that will be easy. I don't think I've ever played a deep bowl? Are they easy to play sitting and standing? I think maybe I'll place a wanted ad for both and see which comes up first. |
