Joined: June 2013 Posts: 6 | Hi! I am resurrecting an Ovation my wife bought me at a pawn shop 15 years ago... it was poorly repaired with bubblegum and dentene wrappers and now I am trying to get it working again. It is a Ovation Magnum 2 Bass with the sliders. 1263 if I have it identified correctly. I have verified I can get sound from the pickups by direct connecting them at the selector switch through my sansamp into my amp. BUT, the 1/4" jack was broken off and the wires with it prior to me owning it, and when it finally came all the way off again, all the wires came with it. The repair had added a switch to turn off the batteries instead of using the 1/4" jack that normal passive basses use, and I have already found a guy to hook me up with one of the proper jacks... I have also found a new pick guard for it on E-Bay... Now, I just need to find out where on the board I connect the positive signal to the jack, and the power switching for the op amps from the batteries. I see that originally 4 wires ran to the board from the jack and possibly both + and return are switched? Yellow to the volume POT for audio out via 1/4" ? Just wanting to touch base (Bass? ha ha) here before trying to true up the circuit.

I assume that unplugging interrupts the power with something like a normally open switch built into the unit?

Would it be sacrilege to just have a pickguard made with the appropriate openings for just an EMG or Bartolini preamp and set the old board aside? I have it working as a passive bass right now, but I want to drop in electronics eventually if I can not get the board working.
