According to the person auctioning it off, Bill Kaman had this Hamer T-51 (aka 'Esquire' and 'Broadcaster') custom made when he was the company's owner.

Before posting I thought I'd double check the archives first (and surprise!) found out this was up for sale before... back in '09 (and before that too).  But there weren't any pics included in that post, so for those like me who never saw it before...

I hadn't ever seen a leather guitar before.

I am seriously drooling! What size are the boots? Merle Haggard played a leather Telecaster back in the '60s-'70s. I always thought that was the coolest. Elvis also had a leather-wrapped Martin back in the '50s but I have no idea how that worked. Seems the leather would completely kill an acoustic, even if it had an internal pickup?

I remember when this was up for sale few years ago. The boots are size 12 dwg preacher. The work was done by custom boot maker Tony Murga. It definitely is a cool ensemble.

The most famous leather bound telecaster I know of is the one ole Waylon played...

I'm going to assume this is the one I saw when I was at Tony Murga's shop a bunch of years back. This is an AWESOME guitar by the way. The neck is like a baseball bat, so if you're into that... it makes it soooo easy to play. I don't recall thinking it was particularly heavy either. I'm sure you could contact Tony and get matching boots in your size and if you wear boots, and don't have a pair of Murga Boots, you are missing out on that as well.

Beal is this the guitar he had in his shop for awhile? 2007-08-ish

I had forgotten that one.  It is possible the one Merle had was a gift from Waylon...I thought Waylon's guitars all had his name inlaid on the neck...apparently not true.

Dammit on the boot size.  That's definitely the kind of retro-country gettup that I aspire to!

Not the same one Miles

Tony will make another, or any pattern you want, and a hell of a lot less than 8500

Tony is a great guy and a helluva harmonica player to boot (pun intended). When he joined some of the Suspects for a jam at Karen's Crib back in January, he was promoting his line of custom guitars and accessories. The man is a true artist.

So was Billy Ray Cyrus' hair! At least that rig looks good.

Beal maybe I'll be able to afford something like that in a day or 2.
