Below is a YouTube link to a video I made for my young students, ages 9, 10, and 11.  This is how I introduce improvisation to my young students.  By the time I send them this link they have already had some experience improvising on these notes during their lessons.  This is meant for them to practice with on their own.  I'm playing my Custom Elite 2078 LX.

Nicely done Meredith. You took the guts of the Em pentatonic scale for student to start with. Great idea. kids (or adults!) can create melodies right away. Once they have those, their ears and fingers will lead them to the others scale tones. That a nice easy way to start.
