I just got an email from someone in a town not too far up the road from me who has this guitar for sale. They said it's in excellent condition with a HSC. I'm a bit confused. I've read two different versions of their value. I've learned this was the highest production number year of the Collector's series and there are a lot of these around. I've seen suggested values ranging all over the map, and have bookmarked two eBay listings of Buy It Now for $2,000-$2,225.00. Assuming after I've made a 45 minute drive to see it and it is indeed in excellent condition, what do YOU, the experts, perceive the value of these to be? It is a grey burst which I find to be appealing, or different at least.

I paid slightly more than that for my daughter's 83 about 5 years ago and haven't seen a better price until now. Hers was not in great shape, either. There were a bunch of them and there are still a lot out there, but most that I've seen for sale are way too high and don't sell. I had some sentimental value, since 83 was the years she was born. Otherwise, I'm not sure I'd pay any more for it than I would pay for an old SSB Balladeer or Legend. Since I have no SSBs currently in the herd, that means I don't value them highly.

The year '83 was when my oldest son was born too. Since he is going to inherit my guitars I had that in mind as well. I just don't get the ones for over two grand on eBay? I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

Would you pay pay $350 for an '83 Custom Legend SSB? After all, that's basically what you are looking at. It's a CL with a custom paint job. Seems well worth it to me.

So they'll be 30 this year. That's harder for me to grasp than the fact that I'll be 60. If it's in good shape, it should be well worth $350. The guy I bought mine from started it on ebay for something close to $2000 and then kept reducing it. Never got any bids. Since he was local, I bought it for $375 I think.

Same here. Can't believe my son is going to be the age I was when he was born. I too will be 60 in two days. I have a harder time believing that, especially since I mentally stagnated at around 27 in my mind.

I tentatively decided yesterday on my 60th birthday this guitar would be a great present to myself for surviving this long when four different specialties of docs said I shouldn't be here. Plus, there is the fact that my son, born in 1983, will inherit my guitars. I'll be driving out to see it today and possibly picking it up. As excited as a little kid on Christmas eve, especially after Patch's reply! I experienced my first surprise birthday party last night of my life and actually cleaned up monetarily like I was a little kid. I can buy this now and still have enough to pay for my custom built OM that will be done next month from Dr. Conant, a fine luthier I met because of a trade I made with dwgpreacher man.

Happy Birthday, Dave, and to your son, too. Ours are next month. Our daughters got their Ovations for their 25th birthdays.
