Research says these are made in the USA? I want to at least try the mid-depth bowl. My search does not show much chit chat abut these models, are they not one of the favorites? I know there is not the normal bling etc..

TX and AX are made overseas. LX would be the Made In USA version. Seems like the 1778 moniker covers a lot of ground, lots of different colors, finishes, and configurations. You can at least count on it being a multi-soundhole model. The LX's I played back when they used to hang on the wall in the stores were all nice guitars. I can't speak to the TX model.

The TX stands for "Texas".
The late shift at the Collings factory quietly cranks them out.
.
.
Shhhhh... it's a secret.

Brad, despite your avatar of you in that Detroit jacket, some new people may take you seriously. So watch it or we'll have to bring out the coconut bra and grass skirt pictures. I'd have done it already, but I forgot how to post pictures and I get the dry heaves every time I see that one.

In reading Mark's post I tried keeping track of the number of shots he took at me.
.
I lost count.

Koh-ree-Ahhh

If you compare a TX to a normal Celebrity, the TX is a Good (maybe Great) guitar.
If you compare a TX to a USA T, you will find the TX wanting.

I bought a 1778TX not too long ago because nobody was letting-go of an Elite T...
Right after I bought the TX I found a T for about the same price.
They sounded similar until I changed the strings on the T...
Acoustically the USA T is much better.
But plugged-in the T and the TX sound similar.

The TX is a Great guitar for what it is.
Understand that all of these Korean O's are just expensive Celebrity's.
I have owned many Celebrity's that were very nice guitars.

But the TX is not a USA-made Ovation.

(BTW-- I promptly sold the TX and the included iDea preamp and made my money back)

Shoulder length, long sideburns and a long stache through most of the 70s. Started losing it when our first kid was born.

The first time I saw that, I looked at the guy with hair and thought, "that doesn't look like me." Then I realized that I was looking at MWoody and one of the bald guys looked just like me.
